Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

Where will the new cuts be?

Putting this out there for expert analysis:

Seeing as all the cuts made last year were barely over 1 percent and basically decimated the ranks by my own observation and accounts from others, where will the next 4% in cuts come from?

Major yard closures? Surely a minor cut here or there will not achieve a 4% reduction in head count by the end of this fiscal year, so when is that January 2021?

Again if they’ve already cut this much and it’s only achieved a little over 1% in operating ratio reduction, where can they possibly squeeze 4% from?

Eagerly await thoughts and expert analysis.

they still have a ton of Real estate to liquidate. to include yards and shops. headcount alone was never intended to achieve the results. now yard and shop closing or as they say idling will pack a punch to the bottom line. can you imagine the cost to run a yard or even a shop!

They can't promote crafts to supervisors. They are too in to the divide and conquer

No promotions but it looks like soon that's about all they're going to have left.

Promote all crafts people to supervisors so that they wont get laid off, then save $$$ by not having to do collective bargaining.
