Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

The real extent of the layoffs?

I’ve been reading this forum since this morning and different numbers have been mentioned. Some people say that the layoff will affect 5000 employees company wide, some say 2% of the workforce could be impacted. How reliable are these numbers? Are these the numbers (assuming they are correct) referring to the total amount of employees that are going to be affected by layoffs, or are they referring to the amount of people that are going to be cut in this wave ( Today, or in the next couple of days). In any case, I think this will happen in multiple waves and that it will go on for some time. What could be the final number of laid off employees in the end?

I have been laid off twice from United. First time they took my access away immediately. This time I was told that we keep access until our official term date in 2 weeks to allow us to look for other positions within the company. I can't decide if that is good or bad :(

It sounds like you are new to the website, but layoffs have actually been occurring in several waves since last May. Previous posts will have the dates, but every time it has happened, the correct dates have been provided from people within the company to alert us. There are a few trolls here and there, but most dates end up being corroborated by others and end up being accurate.
As far as the numbers go, a google search says that UHG has 300,000 employees. 2% of that comes out to 6,000 people. So it's close to that. Several posts claim this number was presented in meetings from upper management. It could be all at once (today) or in the future, but just know..many layoffs have already occurred this past year.
The hard part is not letting it get to you. I had no indication of a lay off coming (no meeting or security changes in my programs like others have) and I still had nightmares last night thinking about it. All you can do is make sure you have your resume updated and all relevant info. Plan your finaces so you could weather a sudden drop in employment. And just know that the day could come but don't spend your days worrying about it. Put some safeguards in place so if it does come, you are better prepared. I can't imagine the people that showed up today and literally had no clue about layoffs and in an instant had to turn in their computer and access to their stuff with HR.
