I was laid off in November and can tell you I am still looking for work. It is tougher than you think out there. My advice is to use your severance sparingly. Reach out to your unemployed office immediately. Some states do not require you to claim any severance. I did not know that and waited till my 8 weeks was over before applying. It was then that I learned I could have applied sooner and not had to wait so long for my first check.

You will go through all of the steps of grief. I think the first month, I was pretty depressed and had a really tough time. It's important to get to that place where you accept the fact that this was professional and not personal in any way. I believe that they literally go down a list of employee ID #s and pick every 5th one or something that random. The second month, you pick yourself up and start taking a personal inventory to try and determine what it is you want to pursue. Maybe you want to change your path? Maybe you want to leave insurance? Maybe you would rather stay in the same market. You dig out your resume and start applying. Make sure to get Letters of Recommendation prior to your last day with UHG. Ask your Managers, CMOs, co-workers, Internal & external partners BEFORE you leave. Have them sent to your personal email. Make a list of your contacts and send them to your personal email address. You will be so glad you did! Update your LinkedIn. If you don't have one, create one and start using it.

Get back to positive. YOU & I will get through this. There is ALWAYS a brighter side. It's going to be a bumpy ride but YOU will come out STRONGER and more resilient.

Surround yourself with a strong network of positive and uplifting people who are invested in your success.

Manifest your destiny. You've got this! No corporation, no person, no- thing has the power or control to take you down. You would have to hand them that power of your own free will. It's a choice.

Horrible. I’m so disgusted by UHG. Sorry you were laid off.

A lot of these positions eliminated will be hired offshore to mostly 3 countries. Can anyone take a guess which 3 countries?

Worked in National Accounts. Just got let go today after 6+ years. No lie, they have never really cared about their employees as compared to other companies. hoping to find something better than this place.

UHG is ruthless. Layoffs since May 2019. It will get worse. Next layoff is scheduled for March 2020.

Are people being told they have no RRP? Or was it just me? I have not seen anyone else report it. You have to be working ON 2/21 to get it so if your last official day is 2/20 you are out of luck. I would like to hear from other please. Thank you.

A woman who is six months pregnant was let go. A hard working and smart young woman. If that doesn’t say all there is to say about this company and their commitment profit over people, I don’t know what will. I’m sure there are more gut wrenching stories just like that. Will any of this even make the news? Doesn’t seem to ever. If she dare speak out, what is left of her remaining income will be stricken. And people wonder why unions were formed and are still holding on.

Risk for self harm is real when there are layoffs. Unemployment is considered worse than loss of spouse or divorce trauma. Get help if needed. Especially longtime employees who were blindsided. Or newer employees without cushion. Saying prayers that people know there is hope and something better job will be found....and when you don’t work there, your caseload or job duties is now someone else’s problem! Yippee, right? When you don’t work there any more, your family will notice the joy on your face when you realize you are free from UHG bondage!

I've heard of one Accounting Ops Manager that had been here nearly 30 years that was let go today. Sadly, many of the desks near me are suddenly vacant (don't want to reveal my location)

Those posting 2% reductions are correct. We were told this in organizational meetings today. It’s all real, unfortunately. I was hoping that it would just be rumors. I know people personally who were laid off. There are many restructuring changes happening as well. So, it seems as if even as these changes settle, more could be on the way after teams are integrated. I’m terribly sorry for all impacted, it could be any of us, no one is safe. These reductions shouldn’t be viewed as a reflection of the performance of those laid off. Some really great people were laid off, feels like a numbers game.

I am a Director in UHN and was just walked out, laptop taken and blackberry disabled yet was told I was welcome to apply to other roles!!! But the kick in the face- NO RRP. Need to be active on 2/21 to get it. And I am being paid through 2/20.
