Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Former employee

I worked and dedicated myself for over 20 years. I was part of a separation last year and miss working for the company everyday. For me, I was lucky enough to have great managers over the years. What upsets me the most is I post often for open positions and just get reject notices. I was an above average acheiver with talent who unfortunately for some unknown reason was let go. I think of the 🏦 everyday and wish them well. To all of the members with over 15 years of seniority I wish you well. Bnym is a great place to work especially in Oriskany. Maybe some people won't appreciate this comment but come on while we were there yes we worked long days but it was worth it. It is disappointing that we all couldn't have been placed on other jobs but more disappointing I can't even get a job interview, no sooner do I hit submit I get a reject and I have talent

Hr is a mess and they're incompetent. My old group took me back years ago and they had to go yell at HR to even find my resume.

I call it two level of defense. The first level is young Indian recruiters who have know idea what they are talking about ( they even call from India now) the second level is an interview in the company it self where you will meet pretty much the same, so the bottom line is if you don’t know the hiring manager your chances are pretty problematic, the reason I got my first assignment after BNYM is because my hiring manager who was let go by the way was domestic and looking a professional with a lot of experience but this chance is very very rare...

Agreed, you need to know someone. In all four of my moves I knew that I had the job before I interviewed. The HR interaction was a formality and In a few of them HR sent a rejection. HR here jas always really been a mess.

I posted for jobs the entire 6 years I worked there. I only had one phone interview and didn’t get the job. All the other posts were rejected. And I had a very good resume, skill set, etc.

You will have a job only if you are friends with managers there or know someone higher up - new hires who are in managerial roles and have hiring authority bring their friends or people who have worked for them - so they chuck out people who already in the team and who know their job. All the open positions are filled by people who are known - so it’s not healthy competition or people who are talented!

Working too long for one company means you k–led all other skills. Smart guys will change job every 3-5 years, raise you get changing a job is not comparable. In 20 years, you lost a lot money, skills and smartness. Good luck who ever works over 5 years in one company.

Same here. Almost 20 years of dedication only to be let go last year. I've posted for the exact same position(s) that I did while employed there and get rejections.
