Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Neighborhood

We hate to see anyone loose a job. Reality is if you are in a neighborhood store we all know our malls are tired. Our customers are old, the area was once thriving and now it's not. We may do 5,000 by noon if we are lucky. We see the same handful of customers buying Karen Scott and do internet returns all day. Our product mix is horrible because we don't have the customer base to sustain the best product.
Gone are the days if a store in every burg. We drive an hour without thinking about it. We order online.
50 % of the mall is bs stores, anchor stores are closed.
We would never recoup the money for a remodel in 50 years. We barely make payroll during a given day if you do the math.
You are not realistic if you think ever store and mall will thrive forever. We have had too many stores for decades. When we had two stores in the same mall, some were dated when we merged in the first place. we wanted to be the biggest not the best.

We are now a neighborhood store too. Not sure what that means except we are on the chopping block. I watch $1,000s of dollars being stolen everyday and Macy's does nothing to stop the thieves, they laugh at us. No wonder we are losing money. Plus staying open extended hours is also a BIG waste of money, once the mall doors close NO ONE comes in. So how long do neighborhood stores stay open before they are closed as well?

Neighborhood stores ... also doomed

"... nor does the simple premise that making a bad idea smaller, just means it’s less bad, not actually good."

  • "sounds like a Kohl's knockoff with food and beverages," ... "hyperlocal attitude is impossible to do consistently."
  • "Going to strip centers is a waste of time,"
  • "So they're going to compete with Kohl's now? This has been Macy's problem all along — what's the gimmick of today. They need to just get down to the hard part of being a retailer and that is being in the best 150 malls in America and getting out of the Midwest."

Hello,

My name is Nathaniel Meyersohn and I'm a business reporter at CNN. I would love to talk to any longtime Macy's employees who have lost their jobs or will lose their jobs because of store closings.

Our conversation can be "off the record," meaning I won't use your name in my story or tell anyone that we spoke. Your identity will be kept confidential.

I can be reached on my cell at 917 498 6900, on Twitter nmeyersohn, and email nathaniel.meyersohn@cnn.com

Thanks very much.

Nathaniel

The individual stating they should have formed a Union, what a joke of a comment. They truly do nothing to protect your job, Union stores get closed also, all they do is collect money from members and get rich. Don’t be fooled!

Realistically doesn’t cut it for working people losing their jobs. Retail became nothing about the honorary people who gave almost all their lives to keep them afloat. More should have been done as a duty to the their workers. I worked with these people. They gave their heart and soul and sweat for nothing! All of retail should have had a union. These people were from other countries trying to make a living. It disgusts me.

That is correct. You should be able to access it in the portal.

My understanding is those becoming Neighborhood stores were informed this week. Is that correct? Anyone have a list of locations?
