Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Is honesty the best policy in VZ IT

After many years in the same role, I'm ready for a change but concerned letting my boss know puts me at risk for RIFF and/or reduced role in IT.. - thoughts and suggestions?

They already know all the employee are unhappy in this crazy culture. They’re trying to run people off.

See the ads on this page? They're not here to sell products as much as they are to track behavior and tie it back to identity. It is made easy by the special URL you are given when you post. Don't interpret sudden attention as intimidation by Verizon. You've hit a nerve with multiple corporate intelligence companies which are going back to investigate you and the veracity of your claims.

Of course, some of them are actually going to be reputation management companies. They are eager to win a contract to deliver employee sentiment back to the company. While you are at it, complete your Pulse survey so that Verizon can keep up-to-date with your sentiment over time. If you thought Pulse was useful for guiding the company, that's like believing that the value of the ads in a Verizon layoff forum are to sell you something.

An interesting coincidence. You post something on this board and, suddenly, both security analysts, and individuals from the world of IT, coincidently start peeping your social media profiles.
Intimidation?

Just apply. I've had multiple hiring managers ignore my soft approach outreach for positions, which I did not then apply for. Internal postings are a literal c-apshoot, and I wouldn't worry about retaliation unless you have a very poor relationship with your manager + they have the flexibility to.

Hiring managers are already busy. If you’re interested, apply. Check within your network and see if you have someone that could give you an intro or put in a recommendation. If you’re reaching out to the HM for every posting before applying then you’re limiting yourself.

Best way of applying for a job, reach out to the hiring manager and speak to them first, have a soft interview without hitting apply, if they find you a fit, they will tell you to apply officially and they will do the rest

You'd have to look externally. Managers can be passive aggressive at Verizon, and quietly destroy your ability to transfer behind the scenes.

When you apply for another job your supervisor is notified.

Don’t let a weak leader keep you trapped in a position. You could express no interest in changing roles and still be riffed. It’s all about numbers in GTS. Performance means nothing under the current leadership structure.

If "I'm ready for a change" means another job in VZ, just know as soon as you apply for another VZ job your immediate mgr will be notified, so there's no way to sneak around that.

If "I'm ready for a change" means going outside VZ, best to say nothing until you have accepted another job offer if you're worried about mgr reaction.

Documenting your career crashing if you let them know you looking to move on wont do much good - vz legal team is no match. Seems you are stuck between a rock and VZ 2.0. Dont think HR can help so grin and bare it or jump ship.

say nothing at all.

Anything you say can , and will, be used against you. If you’ve been here many years, you already know this.
Another way to look at it is if you’ve been here many years, they owe you, you owe nothing.
Give zero warning of your plans, they are for your consideration only.

That is considered retaliation and is against the code of conduct. Start documenting everything if you de use to let your boss know.

Only in a Toxic work environment , that you would have to worry about getting RIFd to advance your career at VZ. What a sad place to work now. Unacceptable.

The leaders that are left run back to Shanks .
There use to be a few VPs who listened and helped, they are gone.
I would quietly look and leave. Don’t let them know you are not happy

  1. 0 is all about marching in line

Good luck
