Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

everyone who left is happier

it is tough to be caught off guard with the recent layoffs, but if it's any consolation, everyone I know who has left Macy's is happier now than before. In some cases, more pay. In some cases, more free time. In all cases, more happy.

Good luck to all those affected. When you look back at this moment, this will all be a blessing.

I was fortunate enough to have been lucky when this happened in 2017. I worked for the company almost 30 years in store management, most recently at San Francisco Union Square. Unfortunately what was once a great company became a ‘toxic and intolerable’ and ‘abusive and bullying’ environment created by the so-called leadership running Macy’s as well as many of my fellow store management team who lacked basic integrity and morals.
I should have walked out sooner but glad I stayed for at least “the package” I received ( wasn’t like a lottery but a decent chunk of change to deposit in the bank). I am now HAPPIER for sure, have less stress & more free time as well as earning more than double.
I also know of others who left this hostile work environment who Are now LIVING AGAIN and feeling the same as me.
PS - There were a lot of GOOD PEOPLE at SFUSQ (and some are still there) but the incompetent managers who lacked both class & style made working there a living hell as well as an embarrassment...
I never really cared if the Regional Director of Stores or her friends were going shopping and didn’t appreciate text messages in the middle of the night. Was hilarious watching the INCOMPETENT MANAGERS using this as a scare tactic. They should have and should focus on the real customers instead of caring about kissing a– and being fake.

I was a store manager who received a severance. That was a couple of years ago. I don't know if that is still happening. I agree with the OP. Everyone I know is happier. It may not seem so right now as you are probably shocked and worried if you were let go, but it will be better. As many people have said in other posts: "there is life after Macy's", and it's a better one.

Everyone I know who left including managers have a better job or equal pay yet no weekends. All the shoe people I worked with have better jobs with way less stress. It’s hard to think that life could be better when your caught up in endless stress. You’re Brain can’t make the correct decision. It’s only when that stress is gone you will see the light.
