SMTS = Sr Member Technical Staff, same as a manager
PMTS = Principal Member Technical Staff which is an SMTS with a wider pay band so your pay increases can be larger, same as a Manager
DMTS = Distinguished Member Technical Staff, same as a Sr Manager
Sr PMTS = Sr Principal Member Technical Staff is a DMTS with a much larger pay band and is the same as a Sr Manager / Associate Director
Associate Fellow = Associate Dir / Director
Fellow = Director to Executive Director

@1zko+13vmZoFm Incorrect for DMTS. It is a band 6. Maybe you thinking of Fellows. In fact, SMTS, PMTS and DMTS are all band 6, just different levels. Directors are band 5.

PMTS - Principle Member of Technical staff is Managerial level but no direct reports. Pay and bonus percentage is equivalent to a Manager.
DMTS - Distinguished Member of Technical Staff is Director level but no direct reports. Pay and bonus percentage is equivalent to a Director

Distinguished/Principal Member of Technical Staff.

I was PMTS for several years; submitted for DMTS several times based on
good performance. Never got it. Different excuse every time. Took VSP and got a new job with significant salary increase PLUS very good RSU package with growing company. VSP was best thing that happened to me career wise.

See this

SMTS vs DMTS vs Principal vs PMTS - what's the salary difference?
Any idea folks - all are same band? Also would PMTS gradually be converted to something else?
