Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Store Closures

Since January we have had North Shore Mall MA, Coolidge Corner in MA, and now Pheasant Lane Mall in NH all announce they were closing.

What’s next? How do I find out if my stores closing?

Where is Huston? Is that near Houston? I agree we *were opening more stores then we *were closing at one point, but today, *we're closing far more than opening. As leases run out, more will close. Store used to average 450-1,000 gg's a month and now barely do anything. But rent, salaries and benefits costs have gone up.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out...

Considering how low our market share is in Texas it’s no surprise we opened four stores there. The north East is maxed out.

Oh....And no that’s not a rumor check your emails.

Usually when a store is going to close you won’t hear anything until a month or two before. There are several signs and clues leading up to a closure. Any type of facility issue that normally is fixed within a few days is let be. In store stock slowly depletes without being replenished. Management transfers occur leaving open slots that are not filled. You mentioned two locations that were in a mall. Verizon made it very clear about 2 years ago they were pulling out of most mall corporate locations when leases expired. So other then if you work in a mall location or know a stores profitability and lease end date you aren’t going to know of a pending closure until they tell you.
