Can craft become managment after retiring?

I'm a 30 year tech and was approached to become a 1st line manager, was told company need some expertise in management that knows the job. I figure what have you got to lose, get your lump sum and if they don't like how you do things they'll fire you, no big deal.

Yes. And have recently due to the inability of management to secure complete outsiders in low level 1st line positions. Many new managers leave on there own accord; complaining about the unrealistic expectation of upper management who haven't spent a day in their shoes. The core business is still a niche business in the telecom industry. Many new management hires lack basic understanding of the unique world that craft operates in. No class can simulate or give a new hire the necessary experience to execute well as a 1st liner. Those that can do so with close relationships established through respect with those in craft. Anyone tells you different is lying.

Yes, a Craft person with 30 years would likely have at least $1M between their lump sum and 401k.
Most would probably be more unless their 401k isn’t as high as it should be. Many have taken loans etc. from their 401k’s but even so, there are few that wouldn’t have a minimum of $1M after all that time. You sound as if you don’t believe it, but a lump sum alone is $700K or more. It doesn’t take much effort to hit the $1M mark from there.

Vz never hires back craft unless you know someone on the inside ,they prefer to hire someone with no experience at 100k so they can use as a puppet .or they want military yes men ..

You can try, but they usually don't hire overqualified people. It makes them look bad. They prefer to hire yes men off the street.
