Black hole of debt. Hard pass. Maybe buy up their shale assets at a huge discount when they go bankrupt.
if Chevron lays off a few thousand more than projected....maybe
OXY has market gap of 10-15B depending on the day. A 25-30 % will make a purchase price in the 20B range.
The problem is that they also have 60B liabilities so not different than eating grilled fish and not careful with the bones. Covid 19 breathing impact will be nothing compared with this.
@mty, CVX "could" pay for these employees, but if they are no longer needed as the business/assets are changing, keeping these employees is no longer in the best interest of the shareholders. As far as OXY is concerned, for the right price, OXY is a great buy - at the right price and if CVX can get that price the Board absolutely should approve it.
@1fx - for the right price, totally moral and should be done if accretive to the share price.
At the right price, sure. What is that price?
@mty - First, we have too many employees in central functions and need to get rid of a lot of the fat anyway. Second, you don't buy a company with cash, so it's not at all the same thing.
You would just be buying crushing debt. There is no net value.
EOG or DVN or COP (Better deal)
It would be immoral to some degree for CVX to buy OXY. Just some missteps but no need to be a big bully and slap em while down and take unfair advantage while Laying off your own employees.
No don’t want OXY cuz they would be screwed by CVX mgmt, etc. It’s a small world
Not until they can get out of their loan shark deal with Uncle Warren.
NO - don't buy entire company, OXY has way too much debt and a poison pill thanks to VH & BOD
YES - if we can purchase individual assets such as Permian acreage at a steep discount
You want to buy a company when we can't even afford our employees? SMH
