Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

United Healthcare & Optum force face to face office work amid COVID19!

It's true that a recent memo from CEO David Wichmann himself indicated that workers were still expected to come into the office even through UHG is one of the largest employers who advocate for working from home, and every single office worker has the ability to work from home. The largest healthcare organization in the world and among a world-wide pandemic where the WHO and CDC have told people to stay home, work from home if they can.

Shaking my Head.... can't figure this one out.

@4oup+140nllHw that's because anything in writing including emails can be subpoenaed, UHG has a long history of avoiding written communications whenever possible and when they have no other choice, they mark it proprietary and confidential in hopes they can avoid having to disclose if subpoenaed

I'm non essential and my VP and her boss stated thet wanted us in the office so they can come to our desks rather than put things in writing. So... if that isn't a sign of an issue then I don't know what is. We have no interaction with the clients except for if we schedule a meeting with a provider and that is a webex and can still be done from home.

I hope they send out an update soon about the extension. I had to end up divulge and was to the point of begging because I am caring for a parent who is extremely high risk. Still, they barely approved letting me WAH this week. They do not seem to care. The stock has continued to drop. I don't understand the significance of non-essential personal to be in the office when we have the ability to work from home? I get to WAH one day a week normally, and that was tough for our leadership to even agree to letting our team do.

@2xiz+140nllHw They got so much backlash about the WFH policy from employees and outside groups that they HAD to change it. We had a call with our team this afternoon about it. Basically, anyone that can do their job from home can work from home until April 30. You can also work in the office if you want to keep doing that. They did say that offices may be closed at some point but it will depend on the evolving virus situation.

Heard it through the grapevine that the company got a lot of backlash for the Sunday memo and are changing their stance. Should be a new memo coming out tonight. I don’t know what it will say.

Pay Attention Here: vvvvvvvvvvv

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/03/16/unitedhealth-group-tells-employees-go-work-unless-they-are-high-risk-group-have-symptoms-or-meet-other-exceptions/

They are reporting on this and HAVE A COMMENTS SECTION. I repeat: THEY HAVE A COMMENTS SECTION.

Go on there and voice your concerns. Expose the to public how this company treats/pays us terribly. Expose this company for shipping jobs overseas and it's carelessness for US citizen's healthcare and their data. Expose this company's greed and it's nasty culture.

If enough comments get to this article (Its the WAPO: they will love your rhetoric) this will push the article to front page news. And the word can get out about this soul s—ing company.

This is really simple. Report to work. Take pictures of the workspace. Request in writing an N-95 mask. When it is declined, file an online complaint with OSHA. When they terminate you, file a retaliation case with OSHA. Write down the ages of the coworkers particularly those 65 and above. By the way, all other carriers are shutting down overseas operations and are hiring. Don’t risk your life or the lives of your coworkers. Does Davey Wichmann appreciate your efforts or your existence? Stay Healthy!!!

Post ID: @1xws+140nllHw - Management Troll get off your high horse - MAYBE 1 or 2 Directors are using their authority in telling employees to say home, however, the CORPORATION as a whole is not sending that message.... can you read corporate emails? Stop trying to tell us how great this is, it's NOT!

We just got ANOTHER email from our VP reiterating that if you're not an officially "work from home" employee and fall outside of the "at risk" group, that you are REQUIRED to be in the office unless you notify your manager and they have approved that it's ok for your to not be in the physical office building.

It's clear that they have no crisis management plan in place and are making this up as they go along. Requiring people to be in the office is in direct conflict with the CDC and the state of MN mandate that goes into effect today.

Expect a massive exodus from this company once the virus and economy clear up. The recent moves have really shown that the company is all about the bottom line and has 0 regard for the employees. I mean that's common in large corporations but at least don't be so blatant about it.

To 1xws+140nllHw: Management is not handling this well. There are handling this issue like they never bothered to put a disaster plan in place-ever. Their response is a clear reflection of how organized they really are, and how greedy as well. I'm starting to believe what people have said about them not liking telecommuting, because to disobey not only the government mandate but CDC to have people not continue to work in the office is irresponsible. I've read a ton of emails from companies I utilize for services, who made their employees work from home to help decrease to spread of the virus. Yet, a healthcare company continues to operate as normal, except for a small group of people. Well healthy people are at risk too!!! They act like they have a hospital or clinic on site and people need hands on services. During this disaster you can clearly see which company values their employees and which do not. But hey, your probably going to support them, until you catch the virus from your coworker, while sitting in your office/cubicle.

The mandatory reporting into the office for everyone with an in office position is totally irresponsible especially when a majority of employees already have the ability to work from home. There is no social distancing going in hallways, at desks and work spaces or in conference rooms. Um, nope. I'm not going in and I'm not going to disclose my condition to my manager either. Having to disclose it is a violation of my privacy and personal medical information. If they want to lay me off because I refuse, then so be it. They've just postponed their layoff plan anyway. They'll start up again when this crisis subsides.

The Washington Post has an article about it. Check out the corporate spin they're trying to put on it.

Same here. This is really a great company to work for. The grass is not greener on the other side.

Management is handling this really well, regardless of what you read here.

Everyone in my department that is currently in office was given the option to work from home starting today. We can even do a combination of office and home if we’d prefer it. Maybe it depends on your director but I have to say within my department this was all handled very well.

Nope. I stayed and worked from home today, told my boss to refer to company email and that I do not have to disclose any condition. Boss said ok, be safe. I'm taking control of my life. Advise you all to do the same and be safe.

You can ask to work from home.. BUT...Employees with certain medical issues are not asking to work from home because then they will have to tell them what is wrong with them. This raises a huge concern for the employees. They don’t trust their manager to keep it quiet or HR to do the right thing. This is wrong for those that should truly not be out in the public but afraid of losing their jobs that CAN work from home and still bring in the money for this almighty company.

The company really doesnt care about the virus. Just keep going to work to see someone get the virus and they’ll still let people come into work

Totally irresponsible - if you are over 60 or pregnant, you should not be going into work if you can work from home - I would contact HR and then the news agency
