Furloughs at Chevron

Do you think they will go with furloughs here at Chevron (instead of layoffs)?

We are seeing furloughs at some companies already - what are your thoughts?

Halliburton recently announced a two month furlough of 3,500 employees. Basically switching them to 7&7 schedule. Only paid when they work. Salaries effectively cut in half. Still better than being laid off.

Chevron is too bureaucratic and too slow to react.

Government and public agencies do furloughs. Private businesses usually just lay-off personnel.

Furloughs are usually for smaller companies who have common sense and care about their employees. Chevron is none of that, so expect major layoffs.

@gld, Good point, they would not want to furlough someone and keep another like you on for the reasons that you stated which is why you have a job.

Furloughs could help save money and bridge the gap to the layoffs, but the layoffs are happening no matter what.

No. Chevron does not want people with bad attitudes, or who might have a bad attitude after being furloughed while the A-lickers and connected non-productive goof offs, right next door, are not.
