Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Pay for employees

I understand store closings and reps/managers getting there 40 hours pay...I’m ok with that!!

But us frontline employees should be getting time and half , we are the ones exposed to this nonsense

Just refuse to go to work! If enough people do that in a store, they will have to close! This isn't rocket science people! Stop b–ching and do something about it! Or shut up!

"Coronavirus is new for us, the company is trying to do what's right without anyone knowing the true scope of this virus" - ummm especially because of this it has to be taken very seriously, not with "we'll wait and see" approach. I can't believe what some of you are saying. It is reckless at best. And now research shows it's more dangerous for infants than previously thought.

"For frontline reps, going into work is 100% optional." - is it though? What if you're a GM or SM? Now with only 1 or 2 SMs per store it's really tough to stay home knowing you are screwing your peers. And you have to face a dilemma of either that or endangering your family member with preexisting health conditions that make this virus deadly for them guaranteed. What if you're a pregnant woman? Having to use a chunk of your maternity leave just to start safe and as such having less time off when baby arrives is pretty s—y (although that one is not just Verizon, it's US laws that s—).
And yes while we all heard "your safety and family comes first", we also have seen people who exercised that to be passed up on promotions and opportunities because they are "not reliable" or "not team player". So excuse me if I don't buy these HR approved corporate answers.

For frontline reps, going into work is 100% optional. If you're nervous about it, dont risk it. Stay home. Verizon will still pay you.

Verizon has always, and continues to care for the well being of its employees. They offer those with child care or loved ones with pre-existing conditions 8+ weeks off at 100% pay. All those afraid to work can stay home and use personal/ vacation. You can't find 1 employee that hasn't heard "your safety and family come first". If you haven't heard it you haven't been listening. Coronavirus is new for us, the company is trying to do what's right without anyone knowing the true scope of this virus. Relax and ask questions of your HR representative.

That saying goes both ways. Retail has been "feeding" the company and shareholders by selling the product and supporting it on the front lines. They don't pay retail employees salary for doing nothing. They pay them for doing a job that is necessary for this company's prosperity. So don't act like retail employees owe their lives to Verizon because they are so lucky to be chosen to work for it. Any decent company, especially of the scale and wealth of Verizon, should do the right thing and take care of their employees at difficult times like this. It will only bring good things - good employee morale, loyalty, sense of team/family, increased productivity, profits. So stop your anti people/pro corporation rhetorics and try to understand that we (individuals and corporations) will all get further if we take care of each other instead of fighting for our own interests and agendas.

Based off this whining I think Verizon should just lay off all retail and let them try to find another job. When this is over, don't reopen corporate retail stores, just let it all be indirects and ordering online. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

@anonymous2020 are you still gonna be grateful when/if your loved ones catch the virus? Especially if they have underlying health conditions like asthma, or compromised immune system? Are you still gonna not complain if they get it from you because you got it from a random customer who came in to have you reset his Facebook pw? Are you gonna say "oh well, at least I got paid for 40 hours and commission, so what if my mom/kid/husband suffer?". I wish you were more grateful for wellbeing of people in your life than for a paycheck.

How are people saying things like “be grateful” what a joke. Be grateful for what? A company willing to risk the lives and health of others? It is clear some of you don’t realize just how bad this virus is. Give it a week or two and those that are working frontlines telling others to be grateful won’t be feeling very grateful. Once this starts impacting your health or a family or friends health I promise your view will change. And to those out of the frontlines still so obsessed with these pages talking down to us saying we’re lucky to have a job, you’re the same people who come into the stores asking us how to transfer your information because your brain capacity doesn’t allow you to grasp the concept of a cloud.

I think as bad a Verizon is managing this in regards to employees and retail stores.

However they say they will pay us. That is a lot better of a situation over some other workers.

I wish they would do a better job of communication to people who don't have access to VZweb or corporate email.

It is a new world. Hans can not get that worrying about shareholders. The market is f-ed and there is nothing that can be done.

Hey don’t get me wrong , I’m not complaining.. I’m happy most of my colleagues are out and being compensated . All I’m saying is that all of us that are in the stores should get something a little more for being exposed.

You must be one that’s at home to call me a complainer

Verizon is far from perfect. But considering what they are doing vs some of the other companies out there....were doing pretty damn good! There are people off work who are relying on unemployment checks....I don’t know about you but I can’t pay my bills off unemployment

just remember the ppl who are out of work and get paid no money whereas our company gave us our 40 hour pay plus 100% comm, it really shows how many ungrateful ppl work in this company, be grateful and stop complaining 😉
