Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

No gloves, no masks, no hand sanitizer...

The store may be closed but if you are a salaried manager you are still required to work. We all have to go in every weekday and work from 8 to 5. We are expected to do hourly jobs like stocking and markdowns from now until we reopen.

We have 10 people who are working in our store, don't understand why the company doesn't care if the senior leaders get the virus. We are expected to unload trucks and deal with UPS and Fedex drivers every day.

These folks are dealing with hundreds of other people a day and we have to unload their trucks and sign for packages, and then work together to put it all out. Why is everyone else off to avoid getting sick and we have to work? Doesn't make sense.

No gloves, no masks, no hand sanitizer. Just told to wash our hands and we don't even have paper towels in the bathroom.

Now you know what it’s like to work for a slave driver with no real plan and unreasonable demands. Try doing all of this for 12-15 hours, having others quit, working the over night shifts, and then getting let go at the end of the day. At least you’ll be able to take responsibility for your decisions, I wasn’t afforded the same.

Try living on 12 hours pay as a part timer who usually works 27 hours, whatever just glad to be home... hope 2 weeks helps but I doubt it! Virus is going to peak in 4-6 weeks!!!

I think some of these people need to put their adult panties on and stop whining. Its not about you its about the whole world being caught up with this virus. You may feel fine but you could pass it on to your elders. We have never been in this situation before so the President and the WHO are doing the best they can. Accept what you cant change and be part of the solution by staying home

@hki+142tV7B2, Part of what you said is true. We are just as likely to get the virus from 5 or 6 people as going to the grocery store. That doesn't mean that we should increase our likely hood of getting sick by being in close proximity with those 5 or 6 other people. The CDC guidelines of 6 feet distance from others is if you are outdoors. If you are in a building or room with someone who is sick 6 feet isn't enough. The Surgeon General said just this morning that social distancing may not be enough to curb the spread of the disease.

Doing markdowns - markdowns for who? Doing fulfillment, clogging up the shipping system for non-essential items. Unpacking merchandise and unloading trucks, it will all be there when everyone returns to work (if we all return to work.)

Having some select few go in to work to increase their potential exposure for non essential work is negligent and shows a real lack of concern for the safety and welfare for employees.

@bgn+142tV7B2, trucks have been stopped. We might have one to work if they couldn’t get the last one stopped, but it is misinformation we will be working trucks for two weeks. We are no more likely to get the virus working with 5 or 6 people in the building that we are going to the grocery store, which we still have to do occasionally. We are leaders and we will work to keep things going. That’s what grown ups do.

I took a box of Purell for the bathroom dispensers, and I cut it open to fill our empty bottles of hand sanitizers.

True about pay scale and shame on Macy allowing this to happen. I have my doubts about all this work the salaried people will be doing. They didn't do this before so what makes you think they will do this now. Full timers hourly only paid 28 hours for being off. That is going to hurt.

Big bucks? Uhhh not a chance first of all. Second if someone makes more money as a manager does that make them less important to get the virus?
Managers have multiple functions they are responsible for.
So for two weeks merchandise will still be going into the store, little going out by online purchases. This is one difficult issue. Glad I left.

Duh...it is because you all make the big bucks. One of your paychecks would be the same as 15 associates...
