Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Malongo

I worked in Malongo from 2010 to 2015 and have pretty much lost touch with everyone there now that I'm retired. Anyone know how they are handling this whole Covid-19 thing? Are they still doing crew changes? Is the Houston Express still flying?

I was one of the lucky guys on the last Houston Express flight. Only men coming back stateside and the flight operator had 3 hostesses from The Gentlemen’s Club on board to greet us and provide the inflight entertainment. I never will never forget this or tell my wife as long as I live.

The Houston Express has been down for about 2 years and all rigs are shut down.

@2hrv, yes, in your next job where you will be, remember to ask if they want fries. I will be retired, so don't care. I don't want the fries. You can just get my double cheeseburger, thanks.

I hope whoever moved the salad bars rots in h-e-double toothpicks for a long time. Those people have no sense of culture, history or stile. The don’t care about Malongo one bit. I hope they lose their salada bar one day.

Have a look at Google Maps. All the original accommodation plus container city is gone. Even the salad bar is gone.
I suspect CABGOC will be on the must sell list soon if it isn't already there.

Lay-off site? Large BU’s + no crews + no money = no jobs = layoffs
Don’t understand this? Remember to ask if they want fries with that in your next job.

My Angolan friends are in my thoughts and prayers. Truly good people...

Is this the layoff's site or the old retired folks who don't have anyone to talk to site?

I was in Angola at the end of last year. The Houston Express is long gone, you have to go through Europe or the Middle East to get there. Malongo was already like a ghost town before Covid-19. Any work that can be done remotely is done in Luanda. Most of Malongo is run by Cabinda based employees. I’d be very surprised if any significant expat crew changes are still going on. As bad as things are in Houston, they are likely to be worse in Angola and N—ria due to deependence on oil to fund the economy. N—ria reportedly needs $130 oil to fund their 2020 budget. Angola was already hurting from Chinese debt for half finished projects as well as declining production. I wish the best for are friends in West Africa. The price crash came at a very bad time.
