Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Burning furniture

Tommy Boys big joke when Fiserv bought FD was that they were burning furniture to stay warm. Meaning that debt was causing them to cut costs so deeply it was a major burden to operations. Well who’s burning furniture now? Is it possible to right the costs correctly ? Can you do it by protecting all your high level friends and “special situations”? No. And top talent walks out everyday leaving nothing but yes people and no talent hacks behind. Having Fiserv on your resume before FD looks good, after not so much and that will get worse. Earnings call will be uncomfortable

Today was difficult as we listened to our leadership explain to the team that one of our own, a much-needed teammates was let go today. We lost a great deal of knowledge today but at least we have the new, no knowledge staff to get the job done. Fiserv doesn’t care about there clients. Tomorrow we have to figure out how to explain to our clients that our teammate is no longer here.

It’s not just the good ‘ole boys either. There are some women high up who have thrown their team members under the bus to try and look good to JY and FB.

@1lso+14B0cQh9 - talent and being a yes-man are not exclusive things. One can be competent and an **swipe, backstabber, or bully at the same time. You can also be competent and in a group of good-ol-boys who look out for each other, but screw over anyone on their team who refuses to join in their dubious games. Fiserv has a lot of people in it like any or all of these types, and I dare say by now it is a majority.

Not everyone is obviously like that, but enough to make any normal non-desperate person blackball and avoid the organization's recruiting efforts. Enough to make hiring managers elsewhere avoid hiring anyone coming to them straight from Fiserv without at least a long, hard talk about not bringing Fiserv's cultural faults over with them to the new job.

@1lso+14B0cQh9 People have every right to whine about the company that they work for when that company culture completely changes and the management that takes over doesn't have a clue, breaks things and pisses off customers and clients, treats their employees like garbage and micromanages everything. People have that right because they can't change the company. They can change who they work for but they didn't ask to be put in that kind of situation. It's like they got a new job for a company they didn't apply to and a job that they didn't apply to.

With respect to talented individuals, first off. the word talented is subjective. Second, no one said that EVERY talented person has left. It would be fair to say that a higher percentage of yes people and less talented people are left there but that does not mean that there are NO talented people left. In addition, there are people there and plenty of other companies that continue to work there, talented or not because of other reasons. You have no idea about someone's personal situation or personal constraints as to why they are still working there.

No, you're still wrong and you're still an a–hole. Need to include dense as well since you just aren't getting the point. As evidenced AGAIN by more downvotes. You don't get the difference between what you're saying and the post here. You are a hopeless cause, stick to another layoff board...particularly if you don't even work there anymore

I've been saying this for months! Every time someone who was laid off posts on here they are whining about how talented they are and how the business won't survive. The talented people leave on their own (and are already gone), all that is left are hacks who can't find another job. Not sure why people downvote my posts but its nice to see so many people now agree!

Very fair to say. By now there may be pockets of decent talent still left and dictating their paychecks for fear of them leaving, but the majority left behind are definitely yes-men or political snakes that happen to sort-of know what they're doing. At least know enough to not leave too many security holes in the product.

Fair to say

Then it’s fair to say that those that remain will be looked at as lesser talented yes people

The talent is leaving and has left but that's what they want - yes people. No one challenges decisions or authority with yes people. Talent means people who know what they're doing. People who know what they're doing, question those who don't. And those who don't that are in authoritative positions don't want to be questioned or called out. That's the plan. That's been the plan all along.
