Sales picking up again

For a few weeks we've had fewer members show up to shop but so far this week it feels like everybody has decided that the crisis is over even if we are seeing more cases and deaths all over the country. How can people be so thoughtless and stupid? What will it take for some to take this seriously?

I've definitely been noticing that members coming in seem to be not taking it seriously anymore, as if they feel it's all over now. More and more people not wearing masks, NO ONE social distancing, and bringing the whole family (again not wearing masks). Plus, they're buying stuff like crazy – TVs flying out the door like it's Christmas! I guess since they don't have to pay rent anymore might as well blow that extra money they got from the gov't.

Thoughtlessness, and stupidity are the same. It's positively the stimulus checks. Thank God we are able to provide the essentials like Slip n Slides and Trampolines. What would the mouth breathers do without us.

Wow, our members never stopped coming. First it was the Hoarders' Rush, then the Can't-Find-It-Rush coupled with the We-Drove-Over-An-Hour-To-Get-Here-Rush, and lately it's been the We-Got-Our-Stimulus-Check-And-Need-To-Spend-It-Rush. We also have Walmart made rushes: First-Responders-Sundays, and Elderly/Disabled-Tuesday/Thursdays.

Our lines are long and staffing is thin, and those of us left standing are considering d–g usage to deal with the stress.

Especially those of us forced to stand side-by-side, the runners and cashiers. Not only are we shoulder to should with each other, we stand within two feet of members paying for groceries. By the end of a shift we've come in close contact with hundreds of people. And you know when you can smell garlic on someone's breath or perfume through your mask, that's too close. Right?

People do what people have always done, think of themselves and their families first. Well, most of them anyway, some don't care about anyone else. Even you, you're worried about you, not about other people in the store. You're worried about how their being in your store affects you. Don't worry, it's normal. And that's the way it is for most of us.

Occasionally you will find a hero. Heroes are rare. Most of us don't fall into that category. Most are here for the paycheck, so we can take care of ourselves or our families. We are not the heroes. We are the sacrificed, the poor, the expendables. Central office counts us with numbers, not names.

I guess I'm in too deep. Forgive my ramblings. Must be the d–gs. At any rate, I have to get ready for work. Take care. Stay safe.
