Thread regarding Ford layoffs

April 21 Huddle just finished up

Were are doing great. No more cafeteria will being wearing Star Wars face shields in the PD Center.

I have to say in all seriousness they are doing a great job planning this return to work phase.

I propose that all of the top management and executives including Hackett and Farley wear the same protective equipment as the workers and work for 2 weeks on the plant floor right alongside the workers. If it's safe great. If they won't do this, then the plants should not reopen until all of the rich boys are willing to put their lives on the line also.

Even with masks, face shields, full gowns, plexiglass dividers, checking temperatures of every employee the virus continues to spread in meat packing plants. Granted they are closer together on the line than auto plants but it goes to show we are going to still have transmission and deaths in the plants.
There is absolutely no reason for the vast majority of the white collar to be in the office.
The only reason the leaders want the white collar back in the office is to justify their positions.
In reality Ford could shutter over half the dearborn buildings and in the remainder just have office spaces that people reserve with an app when they need to be in the office. Other companies such as IBM have been doing this for eons. Time for Ford the company to adapt to this century or die.

I'm curious with the plants. All this check in and temperature scanning is going to eat an hour per shift to get all the lineworkers to their station.

Mr Hackett makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside whenever he speaks. We are very fortunate to have that type of leader in these times.

Ridiculous. Unless you specifically need to be on site to work on equipment that is not available remotely, everyone else should just continue to work from home. There is no common sense reason for hundreds of people to try to navigate that giant s... show gauntlet every day to just sit in front of a computer all day long when they could do it safe at home rather than suit up like they are going to Chernobyl. Feeling like mgt is pushing this to prove they are needed. What this mass work from home is showing is that the majority of them are not needed because we don't need them to do our jobs. The only people I know that are clamoring to get back to the office are the ones that spend their days walking around visiting and trying to get face time w/ mgt to s— up.

Really? Either your are over the top sarcastic (and can't blame you given all that has gone on at Ford juts in the last 18 months), or a total nut job thinking they have thought this out. well.

Ii reeks of reactionism to "do something" because of fear. No more places to get lunch because you are sick and tired of brown bagging it from home 5 days a week...ever eat that ore-packaged stuff you grab at an airport while rushing to make a connection? Yeah, real tasty. Wear a face mask all day while in the office...even nurses and doctors don't do that! Am I going to be 'outted" to management because I lift my mask once to often during the day to take a drink of water or coffee? Plus, the added bonus of working in one of the buildings that is all open office space....you think the masks they give us will protect you from someone that is less than 18 inches from you? Remember, some people still carry disease even though they show no symptoms, and may never show any obvious ones.

Oh, and don't forget my person favorites:
(1) the security guards now get to pretend they are all TSA agents as you wait in line to get your temperature scan
(2) the 6 foot rule in conference rooms, which will basically mean setting up meeting rooms that no one will attend in person because most rooms are so small you could not even fit 4 people in them if you observed.
(3) Last, but not least, is the check in app before you even start to go to the office. Many on this site complain about all the do nothings still n the company; how you think that is going to work when the company provide a built in excuse for them not to show up because the app said they might have something they could bring into the office

Bottom line - if you can't make people feel comfortable working in an office without such over the top measures why have people come back at all unless really needed? More than 50% of the company could work just fine remotely...the only people really ever needed in a building are the engineers and IT folks that support PD and manufacturing, and only at the sites they work at. Everyone else could work remote....because that is what most are going to do anyway, just watch and see what happens
