Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Doing work in people’s homes is a thing of the past

No way Verizon can take in that liability now and do you think techs will want to go into peoples homes ever again? Problem is once one tech gets infected he’s going to infect his whole garage now. I like to see the number of Fios techs infected by covid I bet money it’s a high number as most of them work inside people’s homes. We need to bring this company pure wireless from the home to the 5G cell site. Send the customers a self install kit.

As long as they get n95 masks, tyvek suits with hood, sanitizer, nitrile gloves. You can go in home but vz doesn’t have anymore since this started.

From what I hear, it's the 5g causing all of this, burn baby burn.

Installs will be back to "normal" as soon as we can get a handle on this virus. You would definitely want to keep in the house time to a minimum. People are just going to have to put safety first, mask, gloves, sanitizer, disposable suits, etc. It's going to be important to monitor your own health as well, so you can minimize the impact in the event you get sick. I would imagine if you could put in an ont and get a router working, most people would be happy.

Pfff the post wasn’t anything to bash union. That’s such a mo–nic response. Yes I know you hate the union but that wasn’t what this discussion was meant for.

Yes Fios in box, however there are 1000s of techs dispatched everyday to people’s homes. Would you want to go to someone’s home at this time? Your lack of understanding how this company actually makes money is humorous. If VZ could get rid of the unions they would have a long time ago. It’s not going to happen so get that out of your brain. There membership will continue to shrink but that’s not the issue.

The question is how is VZ going to deal with loosing paying customers? They lost 95k video this quarter and 100k internet customers. And they didn’t ad any wireless barely so there’s a problem and trend here.

In home installs will be alive and well in short time. Home garage and virtual meetings will be the new norm.

Pretty sure most field techs understood that when they took the job that they will be subjected to many hazards. No field tech wants to get sick and they surely don’t want to bring covid, or any disease, home to their family and friends, but they also realize, or should realize, that one of the reasons we get paid so well, is for times like these.

They have been doing self installations for at least 10 years with more failures than successes. It’s all at the will of customer knowledge, which is usually lacking, and/or if an owner, landlord, building maintenance person, painters, contractors, etc. haven’t ripped out all the Fios equipment & infrastructure, which negates the entire concept of a “self install”.

And they already started “FiOS in a box”, however nobody wants a milk crate in their living room with a fiber wire running out the window.

And when 5G finally becomes a success in about 10+ years, most employees will either be be retired, RIFd have moved on and long gone by then. etc.
