Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Open Floor Work Space should be shuttered

Back in 2016 Verizon started changing to the open floor work space plan. 6-10 people working 3ft apart all to increase capacity. (Vs people in cubicles working 6ft-8ft apart) This was always an issue with getting sick from someone elses Cold or Flu. With COVID19 and social distancing Now Mandatory of at least 6ft apart in order to return to work, is the plan to shutter open floor or rebuild it from the ground up?

Corporate Real estate is going to tank.....companies not just Verizon are discovering not only better productivity, but better attendance. Things are going to change.

I work as a contractor in a Verizon building. I am one of the very few that still come into the
building every day. This building now has no Verizon employees in it now. Verizon is trying to
get the building open after 4th of July. We have a call center and totally open concept seats.
I never did like open concept...it's a politically correct setup. Realize Verizon is very politically
correct company. We normally have a near full building with many meetings and conferences daily.
Our workdays will be quite different from now on. Verizon has had a ton of layoffs and severance
packages in the last 5 years-there is a lot of turnover the public never knows about. I do know
this building is being reconfigured as we speak to accommodate workers somehow.

In the corporate America of the future, maybe we could all get a "hamster ball" to run around in, like Bubble Boy. Sounds like fun.
We should get smart about it. The "Cone of Silence" over desk areas might work...would you believe...missed COVID by that much.

I’m also working from home until there is a vaccine. There’s no way I would walk into a Verizon office building with employees right now. Our building shares with other companies too shared elevators ect.

Also what about at COs where multiple techs go in there and touch stuff and there are notorious not cleaned very well. Last CO I worked at the janitor was a filthy dirt ball and he cleaned multiple buildings ... no thank you!

With less employees in every building you can have larger space separation between you and next peer, partitions could be easily installed as an extra barrier besides the space distancing, so the need for a mask is not needed while taking calls. The mask is the least of your worries think about the persons serving your food at the company cafeteria, would they have a mask, gloves? How about all the door handles you touch just entering and exiting the building, main entrances, conference room doors, bathroom doors, etc.............hand sanitizer is a must. You might even have to have your temp taken everyday before you enter the building.

regardless of whether or not they find a way to maintain the suggested 6 ft. of social distancing from a work station perspective, how would it be possible to take calls all day wearing a face mask expecting the person on the other end to be able to understand what you’re saying? Add to that, managing eating meals, never mind the fact that the restrooms are not structured for social distancing. I certainly hope the plan is well thought out, guess we’ll see

managers didn't like it. the execs did because they overheard conversations that they normally shouldn't hear.

Curious how they're going to handle elevator usage in the parking decks at BR as the waiting area for each elevator bank is roughly 100 square feet. Maybe close them off and stagger usage of the stairwells. Going to be interesting.

Open space is NOT going away, when we return back to work it will be staggered, where not everyone will come back at the same time, Another easy fix is to self distance yourself since not all will come back into the office at the same time............there is your min 6ft social distancing.
