Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

President Trump, Masks and Temp Workers

In case you haven't heard, Trump will be visiting Honeywell next Tuesday to tour the N95 manufacturing line.

Do you think this is a good thing for Honeywell employees, or just a PR stunt?

Also, is the N95 line made up of blue badgers, or white badge perm, employees? The news only said "Honeywell is hiring", which could also mean a bunch of temps as well. I expect HON to dump the mask line as soon as they see it's no longer good for company promotion. Do you agree?

Yes, they laid off hundreds of full time Hon. Aerospace employees who’ve been with the company for years , to hire a bunch of contractors off the street to make face masks. Nice company to work for. I’d rather flip burgers than work back at Honeywell. At least I’d be able to sleep at night.

@desa, bldg 102 at Phoenix Engines site is GKN Aerospace. Are you saying the mask production is in that same bldg? I am at Deer Valley, but have been to Engines site. Just curious.....

The mask facility is a sweat shop, building 102 is full of asbestos. The folks running it are misfits from other facilities. Typical Honeywell SOP

No way are they making 20M masks/mo. 400 masks per hour on that machine - maybe a few hundred K at best.

I wonder if they will talk about how we closed the norcross safety plant in 2015 to send jobs overseas?

Just don’t take Trump to the R&O line....can’t get a T55 done for the Army. Project Greyhawk another GSI fubar. Heard the ALT admitted they made a bad decision to close Greer R&O. Sad that it took the General at Army Material Command to help HON realize that. Hope the army doesn’t re-enginee the Chinook because HON’d inability to deliver.

Hon will do anything they can to redirect attention away from the major drop in aerospace demand. I'm sure the Q1 earnings will be better than expected too. The irony is the only reason the space exists in Phoenix to manufacture N95's is due to the outsourcing of American jobs to Mexico and Czech Republic. 100's of good paying skilled machining jobs were outsourced so buildings could sit vacant for the last decade now to be used for unskilled manufacturing by low-payed subcontractors, and somehow Honeywell is the hero in all this? If HON really cared they would have volunteered to make the masks for free instead of taking $200M of gov't money while paying out $600M in dividends.

Read the news, Honeywell signed a 2 year mask contract with Los Angeles, will be around for awhile. Plus producing hand sanitizer now too.

This is what I think:

  1. This thread will turn political and heated, HON folks are as split as the nation is
  2. People will spend time to write long responses
  3. Mods do not allow politics and will delete all of it
  4. People wil be disapointed cause all that time spent writting and participating in the political back and forth was, well, wasted...
