What is the point in a measly dividend when the share price loses half or more of its value! Dividends should be cut in times like this.

XOM protected its dividend with debt and it's not a surprise if CVX does the same. The question is: who's issuing those loans? POTUS?

CVX will fund its dividend w/ debt (if it has to) before it ever considers cutting the dividend.

The investor community would slam the CVX share price if the company retracts its' "we will support our dividend" strategy

PS I was surprised that 1Q earnings announcement did not include estimate of job cuts

Chevron will bend then it will finally splinter under the pressure. ‘Time and pressure’, whether you are a geologist or the oil business, you must have heard this said before. Well, resisting the eventual need to cut the dividend is only a question of time and pressure.

Cutting dividend may enable Shell to grow their Market Capitalization in the long run by freeing cash flow to invest in renewables / energy transition.
