Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

You have a choice, make it.

If you no longer work for Macys, why are you even on this site? If you're unhappy working for Macy's, then leave. Although I'm furloughed, I still consider my myself a part of the Macy's family. I come on this site for useful information, not negative and nasty comments about a company that helps me put food on my table for my family. So please do us all a favor and exit this site. I assure you, you will not be missed.

This is NOT where you get info from Macy’s or your manager. Macy’s INSITE is for that purpose. Period. Read the front page of this site.

“ News, personal experiences, rumors and speculations about layoffs at your company”

Personal experiences are included, this means all not just positive or Kool aid drinkers.

There has been some extremely insightful information that has been provided here and some not so insightful.

Any retailer that was in trouble prior to the COVID issue will certainly have big trouble going forward.

If you choose retail for your life long career, get used to the negative that comes along with this business. You must have tough skin in retail to deal with customers and the day to day rigors if retail.

Macy’s might be able to survive but there is no way they will be back at full strength within the first 3-5 years. Financially they are hurting- cannot pay match for 401k?

Even at $15/ hour that is not enough to sustain a career.

Only you can make the decision on what you will do. Yes there is a family feel to the company however don’t forget they will close stores without batting an eyelash and leave people out in the cold.

Make good choices!

Some of us are here because it’s fun to poke at poorly run outfits like Macy’s and other department stores.

And yes, I’m in the camp that believes most store employees would be better off leaving retail. Sweat bullets over how you can gain education and new skills, not over the pressure some narcissistic manager places on you for not meeting sales goals. These department stores would pay you less than minimum wage if they could get away with it.

Anyone that considers themselves part of a "family" re. the organisation that pays them money in exchange for time is terminally brain dead.

I get being miserable and posting but I do NOT get coming here if you no longer work for the company. When I go I'm not looking back.

Listen folks, there's nothing wrong with using this site for getting information. I understand management can act a certain way in this company. However, some people use this site solely as the complaint department!!! which it is not!! Go vent to your children, dog, parents, therapist, whatever. NOT YOUR COLLEAGUES. And again I say, it's a free country, no one is holding a gun to your head to stay, if you don't like it here, QUIT. Don't give me the excuse "but I have bills to pay" . Yeah don't we all. Unemployment insurance is a great thing to bridge the gap. It's not that hard.

Wouldn’t you want to know if management is screwing you? People are negative because they are not given correct and timely info from management, and most likely it’s because management has an agenda, they want to mislead employees if it saves them money in the long term. I have a good friend who was given incorrect information about the FMLA act when a family member of hers was terminally ill, she ultimately had to call an attorney to handle it correctly.

We come to this site because we do not get important, timely and accurate info from management. Even if they said "we don't know yet" it would be ok. They have a history of misinformation and we simply do not trust them. We have watched excellent managers and workers be shown the door while others stay. It's politics over results.
I was planning on leaving for a great company but they had a hiring freeze mid April. I have gotten more update info from them than from Macy's during this time.
Some workers stay because they have to put food on the table.
If Macy's senior management was doing it right there would never have been a reason for this sight's huge volume of posts.

But if they quit, who will they have to blame their problems on? They thrive on being miserable people.
