Not true if you deny work you will still get future unemployment. The work you deny may not be Suitable for you we’re not pay enough to support you so you have the right to deny it.
?? I'm, you are being called back to the job you had when you were furloughed. You may be asked to chip in and help with some other duties, but you go back to your regular job. Why would you say "the work you deny may not be suitable" ??
If any of you have seen the news. Unemployment in Florida is not paying anything. Most of us haven't seen a since we tried to apply 4/1. Do, be grateful you have a job.
you are allowed to turn down the first call to return to work without losing your unemployment. no one is reporting that you refused to work for the first round. if you refuse to come back during the second round, that may be considered your resignation, depending on how desperate the store is for staff, and that would end your unemployment.
It is sad that you would make more not working than when working. Macy's pay is terrible.
Assessments were done by the store manager. But assessments mean nothing if people refused to return because of being "scared" .. You keep calling those on the list until you get people who really want to go back to work.
As a furloughed colleague, you are still an employee of Macy's. If you are called back to work and YOU make the choice to not accept going back, you can be terminated. Then unemployment will be cut off. because Macy's can tell unemployment you chose not to return to work. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to search the web for the laws. Some exceptions possibly would be if you are ill with the virus or you are living with someone who has the virus. Being uncomfortable about returning to work is not a reason.
Remember too... the extra $600 bonus only runs thru July.

To be honest. Why would any associates come back when they are making more on unemployment
If you are offered work and you deny work, you most likely will be denied any future unemployment. Just keep that in mind.
Your store manager does the assessments and presents them.

when I worked for Sears it was based on pay rate and age
Alot of stores are understaffed to begin with, so who knows if the employees will even come back or if they choose to work somewhere else.
