Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

If you are at home, now is the time to get on a project...

TPS numbers shared below are correct but Mike set a target not an absolute. These numbers are goals. We have to look at what comes out as a recommendation from the BUs. Granted they have to move fast.

We also have to content with the potential for an acquisition at the beginning of next year and start personnel calculations all over again. We all need to understand that this is the new normal. Do your work and try your best to network with senior leaders.

Selected personnel are the ones with positive relationships with the senior leaders. Everyone wants to work with people they get along with. During normal times, challenging personnel are fun. During hard times, collaborative personnel are the ones that keep their jobs. I

f you are at home, now is the time to get on a project. Work with your manager for facetime. If you have not spoken to your manager in a week, start to worry.

It is all common sense.

You bet, OP. I’m currently working at home, and now is the time to get on another project. Yesterday I mowed the lawn and today I changed out the sprayhead in the master shower Tomorrow the wife has me down for another project, painting the kids bedroom and fixing the squeak in the closet door. When is the company finally going to allow us to return to the office?

"But she presented and socialized with the bosses very well. "

Sooooooo, that's what they are calling it these days.

The initial group of people saved will be the ones on the CMTs and the Response Team. Look at the individuals HES put forward to lead projects during these hard times. All hand picked females by the VP. Look at the VPs leadership team. All the males got left in their old jobs to do nothing and all the females were pushed forward. Guarantee that when he announces his new leaders, they will all be female with maybe one token male. I dont trust this guy. He will be known as the guy that said eveyone will have a job in HES (under his breath, if you are a female).

Just so you know, if you have been told to just stay home and focus on your family and the work that you can do from home, you are on the list to be cut.

Also seek out visible large impactful projects/jobs. The opportunity is greater for visibility and advancement. A good indicator of whether you have one of these career helpful jobs is how large of a budget you are responsible for, do you make report outs and presentations to your boss’s bosses and are other people coming to you for info and decisions. But, also seek out working for a good boss who will support your growth as there are some who will take your good work and present it upward themselves and never give you the credit you deserve.

I understand your advice and I appreciate your sincerity. It is true and very real. I have seen this many time where the most incompetent gets ahead with relationshops. There was an example where someone was seen as the savior of the world by management while everyone at the team knew how empty and hollow she was. The month she left for a better job that she was hand picked for, the project went from being 3 month behind plan to 2 month ahead of plan and below cost target. She was bullying everyone, blaming others, teflon shoulders, bad mouth peers and throw everyone under the bus even people who initially helped her so much. But she presented and socialized with the bosses very well. So she won, the project lost and so did Chevron.
The moral of the story is your advice is good for some people but really bad for the company and the industry. People now are lips services with no substance.
