Been here for 10 years. Got let go today. This was a great company. I cannot see people trusting it again. Angry.

Hahahaha, yeah YOU won't trust the company in the future. But guess what, all companies lay off people when times are dire and most people need to earn a living to survive. That said, once they start hiring again they will have no problem filling the spots.
You aren't special.
Being Laid off is not nice but show show class about it. Reading these comments you are acting like NOV is the only company who is laying being off blah blah, every company is doing it. Is KLM, Delta, BA sh– airlines because they are laying people off...... Is Uber a c-ap business since they are laying off, how about Air BnB heard they are having to lay off people too so they must be c-ap.
I do believe NOV has its faults within management but so do all companies, the saying the grass isn't always greener comes to mind.
So yes you have been laid off and I sympathize but you either fell into the category of right age to let go (50+) or you weren't as good as others.
So again have some class about you, pick your head up and drive on to your next opportunity. Go into that job and think about your work ethic that put you in the bracket to be laid off. Dont be bitter as it doesn't suit anyone.
Company that Pete Miller built and screwed up since he left.
Lack of long term planning. This goes for many large corporations, its all about short term gains for investors without an eye to the future...they put all of their eggs in one big oil basket when oil was $150 a gallon & didn't diversify enough. The employees of NOV didn't do anything wrong, their management failed you. I haven't seen any changes to the leadership during this spiral, have you? NOV bought us years ago, ruined the business & finally closed us about 4 years ago. Best thing that could have happened...much happier in my new career. My advice is run, don't walk..find something else, that company is sinking and I don't see a path to recovery.
NOV has no cash anymore. They cant pay their bills. They are laying everyone off.
Gentlemen,
Some of you got laid off (this round), My sympathy goes out to you as the same happened to me late last year.
I was grateful for the severance and I hope they continue to offer it!
Some of you did not get laid off, let me remind you to consider (perhaps) maintaining a certain level of humility (and thankfulness) that it was not you (this time).
I saw many people lose there jobs since 2005.
It was almost like a revolving door out with no rehiring (just downsizing) since 2008.
I was even moderately convinced that my job wouldn’t be affected (to my own fault).
It’s true, in almost any layoff there is “dead wood” to be pruned, however NOV effectively has ZERO in the way of a Performance and Appraisal Reviews since forever, and I speak mainly for engineering.
Many times, it’s also true that valuable employees are cut BECAUSE even their direct supervisor really has NO CLUE of what their direct reports do.
Also, be reminded that many times it’s just a NUMBERS GAME (how many dollars can I save, not how much value can I save).
Then their is the competence issue, say for example an employee has skills which exceed those of his or her manager. This can be rather intimidating and even threatening for the manager (maybe a good time to get rid of so in so).
It is true that sometimes (not always) the people remaining are the lower paid individuals and either less experienced, poor performers OR both.
Just don’t get c—y, your day may be coming sooner than you think and at 15% unemployment it’s now an Employers market!
God Bless Everyone and their families through this crisis!
19 years there and laid off Friday. the goons have run it in the ground. I think Bankruptcy is next
You got laid off because you’re sh–e mate, sorry to burst your bubble but no point hiding behind excuses, your really not great at your job everyone knew it and everything stems from that, IMO your lucky to be laid off and not just sacked outright if I had my way you would’ve been kicked out long ago
yeah, we underpay the sh– out of you, but at least the coffee we give you is good!
I can tell you that 2800 Conroe is ran by a good ol boy network ... if you are not one of their friends, they’ll work you to death ... if you are their friend, you get promoted and anything you do wrong you’ll get an office right next to them.
I agree...f— NOV. If you didnt see it coming then its on you! Never grow roots with any company you work for. They are screwing you every day you show up, so screw em back.
They under pay the sh– out of their employee’s and pile tons extra work on you.
Bankruptcy is inevitable!
you can have all the years you want, but if you s—, you got what you deserved. remaining leadership made the decisions other pu–y managers couldn't do. times are rough. no new sales. no new projects. what are they going to do? pay you to do nothing? live within your means and lookout for #1. i still say f— NOV but if you didn't see the writing on the wall, then that's on you.
Bad management that’s all I can say. I got lay-off on Wednesday. And I have 25 years
NOV is a poor excuse for a company. No leadership, no guidance, no structure. We may see bankruptcy before too long, IMO.
