Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

What will happen to bonus?

I am very worried that the bonus will be again shredded to pieces and reset the bar lower.

You will receive poor (if any) bonus from your manager no matter what you do here.

  • You performed well this year? Manager will blame poor overall market conditions.
  • Markets are doing well and BK stock is skyrocketing? Manager will just happen to give you a below expectations despite meeting or exceeding expectations for the last 5 years.
  • You undeniably did well and saved the team multiple times to meet SLAs and the market is also doing great? Manager will blame execs and say the bonus pool went somewhere else (infrastructure and Greenfield is the most popular excuse)

Bonus? What bonus? In the real world a bonus is something extra above a market rate of compensation based on known, disclosed fully transparent target payouts according to your performance. At BNYM, the “bonus” is subjective, the sc-aps of the slop in a pot dished our with a ladle to the ravenous beasts at the foot of the table and told divvy it up amongst your own pack of dogs......

No other company has such an archaic method of compensation but hey, you learn something old everyday at this company.

@5sla+14SqAmLC again you're speaking with that typical wall street senior level sense of entitlement

if I do the work and get the results then I think I should get the target bonus. If not, the bank needs to figure out where the disappointments are coming from and cut that area’s bonus.

For all of you virtue-signaling pompous people suggesting we don’t deserve bonus’ because only first responders are doing any work... I mean come on, we should all get paid. You are welcome to donate your bonus to the charity of your choice and I will do as I wish with mine.

Sorry if you don’t get a bonus, but perhaps you can take solace from having your health, not having to risk your life like true first responders and health care workers.

BNY should conduct 5 rounds of interviews with all employees especially technical ones, I mean real interviews before they decide merits or bonuses. I am sure 90% will fail and eventually they know their worth and stop cranking out.
BNY has the simplest interview process where anyone can make it to any positions. This is why people who know only how to write basic shell script is a Sr. DevOps preacher. Funny but it's true for BNY!

Spoken with a true sense of wall street entitlement. It's not like you (us) bankers are putting our lives on the line like first responders, paramedics, doctors, nurses, etc. ... even bus drivers are. You are sitting at your cushy desk at home and doing what? ... simply doing your job, and probably getting paid more than most of those essential employees. And you're worried about a bonus?

Re: "People are dying and you're worried about a dumb bonus?"

The 2 things are mutually exclusive. It s—s people are dying and it also will s— if there's no bonus. Personally, I work super hard and deserve a big bonus and big merit increase. If I don't get it I'll be angry and will look elsewhere.

OP here. No, I mean bonus expected for feb 2021. I’m thinking it’s not even worth sticking around for. The only way the bonus was hit in past years was because of layoffs and so without layoffs, bonus to be smashed. What a sad place.

Bonuses were already paid out! Are you talking about merit? No changes to merit.
