I am proud to say I self nominated at Aero. Who else volunteered?

41 years of service and I was turned down.
Several in my area turned in self nominations, we all were turned down. So, someone that really needs the job will probably be let go instead. While I sit twiddling thumbs waiting for some work.
I did. 20 years in and was denied today. HI can s— it.
The Forbes article does provide evidence to refute the March 2002 study. Maybe the 2002 paper is not what it purports to be...perhaps it was contrived as an April 1st prank for 2002?
The 2002 article seems legitimate, upon reading it. On what basis is it asserted to be a hoax?
https://faculty.kfupm.edu.sa/COE/gutub/English_Misc/Retire1.htm shows an earlier article that correlates late retirement to shorter lifespan after retirement.
So in other words those of us who don’t receive any retirement are screwed lol
The retire earlier / live longer story is a hoax. I am sure your intent was good. It is not at all obvious. Here is a more responsible article:

Table 1 and the chart indicate that for people retired at the age of 50, their average life span is 86; whereas for people retired at the age of 65, their average life span is only 66.8. An important conclusion from this study is that for every year one works beyond age 55, one loses 2 years of life span on average.
The Boeing experience is that employees retiring at age of 65 receive pension checks for only 18 months, on average, prior to death. Similarly, the Lockheed experience is that employees retiring at age of 65 receive pension checks for only 17 months, on average, prior to death. Dr. David T. Chai indicated that the Bell Labs experience is similar to those of Boeing and Lockheed based on the casual observation from the Newsletters of Bell Lab retirees. A retiree from Ford Motor told Dr. Paul Tien-Lin Ho that the experience from Ford Motor is also similar to those in Boeing and Lockheed.
I did it baby, come one and give me a RIF!
It seems a toss up. Volunteer and they think you will quit anyway so deny you and avoid severance. Also if you have a lot of years and they think you will retire soon anyway, deny you and avoid severance. I agree if you do a ton of work likely they will not accept your nomination either. If really desperate to get rid of people fast then maybe all volunteers will get accepted. I've known quite a few people who have previously self nominated and were denied. I guess it comes down to your boss and how well you get a long and if he/she/X will work for you or not.
I have 35+ in Anniston. Came from Phoenix in 1985 to help open the facility. Sad to see how far the company has gotten away from the employees as family idea of the Garrett's. God bless everyone. Take care!
Self nom submitted in Aero.
Was turned down previously. If they think you will k–l yourself working and are in the right box, they won't let you go unless you quit.
I signed up for "self nomination" yesterday. It was sort of hard after being there 39 1/2 years, but they have been showing me for some time I'm not appreciated there any more. Of course there is no guarantee they will select you if you apply. It would be like them to pick someone that really needs the job to let go.
Hope everyone gets out and either retires or finds suitable employment.
Sincerely appreciations to those who has volunteered. God bless you all
" Heard they are turning you down if not in the right 9 block "
Yeah, that's your reward for working hard and getting a good review!
Im done as long as they approve. Heard they are turning you down if not in the right 9 block
I just sent in my application to HR. I started at Deer Valley in 1981, and I'm done. I have dodged 8 or 9 layoffs during that time, but I'm going for this one! One manager said that volunteers will either be approved or not by this Friday.
Anyone who knows anything please exit the building.
It would be interesting to hear if any self noms are not accepted.
Not sure if I heard correctly but did they say the self noms would know by Friday?
I had my e-mail sent before the meeting was over! Got the HR form (just a confirmation) yesterday afternoon. My undErstanding is ‘normal’ severance: 2 wks minimum, with an additional week per year of service, to a maximum of 26 wks. No pro-rated 401k match. COBRA available for up to 18 months (this is federal law, I believe). Of course, nothing in writing yet, so all subject to change (but I wouldn’t expect it—they’re not looking to risk lawsuits).
I sent self nomination request right after meeting yesterday. I have received nothing since. I was told in the meeting I would get a link to a portal to make the official request. I called HR. HR rep (who has been with Hon a long time) said did not have much information regarding this request for volunteers. Was not aware of a portal but said if I don't get anything call and will send a form.
Still waiting for hr to send me my paperwork. Do they have to notify anyone and get approval before sending it to the employee?
How much is being offered in this RIF ?
close to 13, done.
19 years is enough. too much
Me too ... 39 years is enough
