I’ve heard of all the cuts to operations and car departments, but always thought the tracks always need repairs and thought I might be ok. Hell no!, MOW is going to get thinned down to the bone! One section gang to cover a whole district. This company is in trouble and will take along time to recover.

Shut it all down, sell all assets, complete liquidation, operating ratios at zero. Now that would really cut costs!
Going the way of contractors. Most yards I go to its rare to see UP mow. Always contractors past the mainline , same with trx and the car dept, Locomotive is next.
Future will for sure have a lot of derailments the management is helping them accomplish that...
One section to cover parts of the district with the help of several contractors. And surfacing gang will soon be contracted out if it hasn't aiready.
Can you imagine how much fuel we could save if the RR would just remove all of the tracks.
No trains no need for track
