Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Not a Coronavirus related question, does that mean it doesn’t deserve to be answered?

I had my last day with Macy’s on 3/13. I left the company after 4 years. I just got off the phone with HR and the lady was rude as hell to me. She told me my question was not important right now as they’re dealing with coronavirus issues. Obviously that is a much bigger issue and I would never expect special treatment over a payroll question.

That being said, can anyone help me understand “It’s Your Time”? I was under the impression that it was yours and you wouldn’t have to pay it back. So I used it on certain days here and there during my last two weeks. I had one last day left that I used for my last week but it wasn’t on my paycheck. I did get paid for PTO I earned but isn’t that separate from “Its Your Time”? Why would they haven not paid me for it if I input under MTO? Can anyone help? Thank you.

“It’s Your Time” PTO for Macy’s in Long Island was actual PAID TIME OFF but for executives only as of last year. During Xmas time, they would give executives five days off for working one extra day over the weekend. This would reflect in your MTO months later.

It’s your time days are not PTO. They are extra time off days they gift you for working the holiday. They are not paid out nor do you get to keep them if you quit. It’s a benefit not a right. Macy’s has a generous paid time off benefit. These extra days are just that. Extra

Many companies not just Macy’s do this if you take PTO early in the year then leave. Never expect to get your cake and eat it too when it comes to this. Usually by about June you are clear of this issue.

It's a gotcha.

I am sorry to hear it.

Also, they are in NYC and people are freaking out. I can understand that they are wired.

Paying back unearned PTO is a common practice. It's not a "gotcha" thing from Macy's.

Not only you get treated like that. Once u leave from Macys, they don’t care about you. But think about come around, go around. Do not be upset.

Macy’s is in massive crisis mode, so yeah, the company doesn’t care if you got that extra $84 on your check or whatever. Try thinking about all of the employees who are stressed out wondering if they are going to have a job to go back to when the doors finally reopen!!

Those hours are based on you working the entire year.so you have to pay back the hours you took since you did not stay! Another company gotcha ya!
