Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron - relocation then laid off

I was awarded a position in the off cycle jobs but would hate to move my family and get laid off in 3 months at a new location when the cuts come through. Does Chevron provide a relocation package back to where you moved from if you are laid off within a certain amount of time after relocating for new job? It may be easier to just cut and run now! Anybody else been through it.

@3lrg+14cAemta You cannot buy a home after 12 months with the financial support of Chevron. Been there, done that. I agree with you on the once a homeowner always a homeowner part.

Just a thought. If the company is willing to invest in moving you chances are you are not once of the deadwood they would lay off. I wouldn't worry about that so much. However, as others mentioned, do look at the relocation policy. It it should be pretty clear.

I would wait and rent for 6-12 months. You can purchase a home after 12 months even though it’s not official policy. Once a homeowner, you are deemed always a home owner so you don’t have to buy in next location to be eligible for any future moves by company.

Have faith in Chevron. Remember you are one of Chevrons most valuable assets and not just a number on the payroll.

They will move you back, but not buy your house if you can't sell it. You have one year to sell and they pay your closing costs, including real estate commissions. After one year you're on your own.

@hut, from the overwhelming thumbs down your opinionated comment has gotten you, I must ask...... Do you work at Chevron?

Anyone with even the slightest gumption can get ahead of the slow moving herd at Chevron and avoid ever being laid off. Do your job well and you can be secure.

Yes good advice to read your papers, but further action could be beneficial. Not only read and identify the clause and or terms which specify that element of the relocation provisions (the return move) but confirm with HR via email, including attaching your documentation with those elements highlighted for clarity/confirmation. Clearly voice your concern and get confirmation via email from HR that you will be moved back. Very likely that if clearly documented the company will honor it. But I would go the extra mile on this item of concern.

The first poster answered correctly. Read your Relocation papers and verify with HR. Chevron has a policy in which they will move you back to your last job location if they let you go within 2 years of moving for your position.

If you don’t want any risk in your life don’t get out of bed. Just lie around all day and gorge on pizza and triple cheese burgers.

Read the demo policy to verify but I seem to remember if you are let go within two years of moving there will be some assistance to move back to where you came from.
