Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Has any one tried filing for unemployment

Has any one filed for unemployment? We should qualify because Macy's cut our hours, sent us home, and then 'temporarily' closed the stores. Many shopping Malls have shut down, and many cities are on lock-down. From what I read (or understand) the new Stimulus package includes unemployment pay at full pay, plus an additional stimulus of $600 per week. I suggest filing for it, because we don't know how long we will be in this crisis.

It's a bit sc-appy, but looks like they've got some cool tools.

Research your state's unemployment web page. It will tell you if you MAY qualify for unemployment. If your state allows for this then file as you are able to work but the company you work for is not open.
Don't wait for someone else to tell you what to do. Take the initiative and use the tools on the internet to your advantage.
Oregon: https://www.oregon.gov/employ/Documents/COVID-19%20OED%20Resources%20for%20Employers%20and%20Workers.pdf
Washington https://esd.wa.gov/newsroom/covid-19
Nevada https://cms.detr.nv.gov/Content/Media/Claimant_FAQ_Covid19_0325_ENG.pdf

Now that took all of 1 minute to add to this post.
Take the initiative and move forward with your actions. The longer you wait the longer it will take to see if you are qualified and longer to get the benefits.

Red Badge.......I don’t wanna go today
What is the point in this? With yesterday’s announcement from Trump, I feel we will know more today on the Macy’s side of things . Social distancing extended till 4/30 and him saying 6/1 estimation date of country opening back up? Could be longer?

Stop stringing us ALL along and let us get the real help we need from state and local governments.

Don’t wait file, now!! Macy’s probably is not communicating what to do because Macy’s has to pay half/50% of every unemployed claim that is filed by their employees. JG is trying to conserve cash any way possible and this is an easy way by not communicating to his associates!! The longer you wait to file a claim the more money the company saves. File now!!

I can not believe "they" are not communicating ANYTHING to the hourly associates about "their plans"! ! April 1st is almost here and everyone is clueless?? Give me a break. Tell us the truth Macy’s! Tell us if we have jobs or not so that everyone can get on with their lives. They can not let an employee go because they filed for unemployment, when THEY have basically abandoned the hourly worker with no information! What do they expect everyone to do? Not the employee's fault, it's Macy’s for LACK OF COMMUMICATION. Why are they so scared to give associates instructions on what to do next or what happens next??? What a mess...

When they started to close on the 17th they told us that we would be back on the 1st of April and we will get notified instructions about coming back and still nothing. I guess I should file too since everyone else is at this time.

My suggestion
Worry about yourself you are only an employee number. You can always apply and if things change remove your application.
If you are ineligible they will let you know unless you can survive on 12 hours.

I think that if we file we are basically putting out resignation meaning at this point if we do and not wait to be told what’s next we would be considered as being laid off permanently and Macy’s would get rid of those ppl first if they start to do cut downs on employees because they are basically already in unemployment so they are set so I wouldn’t risk it just yet it’s to soon to tell and make drastic moves in the end of it that might be what Macy’s wants us to do to make it easier for their paper work and not have to deal with doing the cut offs themselves in other words you apply now you are saying you are out completely from a job. That’s just how I think not a fact but at this point anything can happen I’m just thinking outside the box.

I filed for unemployment and I'm pretty sure I'll qualify. Our store closed on St.Patricks Day and it felt like we were all saying goodbye forever...it was sad. I love the people I work with (except certain members of management that can be secretive and clandestine as if we work for the F*cking CIA) I hope when this all blows over we can go out for Beer and Wings.

Go ahead and apply for unemployment, your hours were cut starting this coming week there only going to give full timers only 12 hours of disaster pay, your entitled to it. You will get your unemployment pay plus the additional $600 for 4 months whenever that starts to kick in plus the stimulus check. Take my advice if you drag your feet on this, the longer it will for you to get the money your entitled too. The unemployment websites are getting jammed with new claims and its going to get worse, These places that were suppose to be closed till the end of the month will probably not open for several weeks.

If one is to file now since there’s no communication from the leaders or thru insite will we be penalized for doing so when we do open ? The fact that we are in limbo is just not fair to anyone. So guess unemployment it will be.

@aog+14du19G8 My suggestion is to file for it, because our hours have been drastically cut, and our future at Macy's is uncertain. The Stimulus Bill is supposed to help workers whose hours were reduced, and whose jobs have been affected. The government is trying to prevent the calamity that would happen if millions of people suddenly can't pay rent/mortgage/utilities/food.

As a full time 40 hour employee, I am going to file now. Like everyone else I have not heard what the plan going forward is but I know we won’t be going back anytime soon. It can’t hurt!

That’s what I’m wondering do we file now because we’re not being told anything from the people leaders period! They haven’t conveyed any information to us colleagues since we closed due to this virus .
