Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Will these be layoffs in disguise?

Furlough some people than never call them back? What are the chances of that happening?

And Wal-Mart and Target both pay better than Macy's...

Look outside of the department store realm. Target and Walmart are among a few retailers hiring. They’ll recognize the transferable skills that department store workers bring to the table.

Who knows???
File for unemployment.
Start looking for a new job if you are worried...good luck with that though.
You have to take care of yourself, but speculating is not going to help. If you are worried take this time to get your resume ready.

Death for Macys has been eminent for a long time .I say better now than later ! They were too arrogant to do what needed to be done a few years ago and now they’ll play the price ..

Yes, this is a layoff in disguise. It's also a massive store closure in disguise. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they're down to 100 or so stores when it comes time to reopen. The company has admitted they're out of cash. If I'm a vendor, I'm moving Macy's to COD, to protect myself.

This letter is very, very bad. If you're not applying for unemployment and plotting about what you'll do when this pandemic is over, you're already behind.

It could be curtains. And I wouldn't be surprised one bit.

The company is dead. Macy's and other retail chains that are closed up (JCPenney) are never going to recover from this. File for unemployment and/or start job hunting now. These places are never going to reopen except to liquidate at a later time.

I feel like that’s why it is. Like fisher person suggests start the unemployment filing ASAP and defer any student loans and make sure they are not collecting interest.

Based on my last meeting they will slowly stager in reemployment when they start opening stores. The way they said it just sounds like a lot of people won’t be brought back. Could be based off of need or possibly just because someone doesn’t like you. It happens and I would be prepared for that.

Just file for unemployment and stop whining. None of us have a crystal ball

I think it will be up to store management for who’s coming back. My guess only the lowest paid associates will be back first. I think if you are making decent money. It’s curtains for you.
