Seeking Alpha: Verizon enhances pay for essential employees

Verizon (VZ -0.7%) is offering "significantly enhanced" compensation for its front-line workers who are still performing essential tasks, it says.

More than 100,000 employees are working from home, and 70% of corporate stores have temporarily closed nationwide.

But a number of workers must still deploy outside their homes for critical needs, including repairs, order fulfillment and network maintenance.

The “Essential On-Site Services Pay” program will boost base hourly rates for eligible retail employees when working in a corporate-owned location. And eligible network, logistics and real estate employees, including field technicians, will get an enhancement to base wages.

Employees who contract the virus are eligible for up to 26 weeks paid leave as well. Those caring for someone who's been infected, who have been directed to stay home due to an underlying condition, and those having trouble finding childcare can receive eight weeks of full pay and additional weeks at 60% of base wage.

Pay attention.

Hazard pay is not retroactive unfortunately.

It went into effect last week, so that means it will be in this Friday’s paycheck, April 10

Employees have not received any hazard pay yet. Linemen in NJ working around the clock because of call outs. Making a lot of OT but guys are getting worn down. Done if these post are really insulting. I like to see some of you “work at home” employees operate a bucket truck or climb a ladder or telephone pole.

People working from home complaining about everyone else complaining sure have way too much time on their hands and no work to be done apparently.

Pfff what a disgrace. We have not received squat or any enhancement pay in this paycheck and now I’m starting to feel sick.... ughhhhhh!!!

In the center where I work we work on top of each other, everyone is in the office coughing, complaining, even a fight broke out and 3 employees were fired. The emotional outlook in these data centers is terrible. Bad managers, havoc, and stress. But hey your getting paid is the model we live by.

If any executives from VZ are reading this... please please get your heads out of your asses. You have a lot of nerve posting your chat videos of you and Depok Choopra preaching budda and meditation tactics!!! How bout some cleaning supplies, Lysol and hand sanitizer!!!!

Complete Disgrace !!!!

As long as we are still around to spend it. Somehow it's not retroactive for last few weeks while we were at the same risk. Guess our protective shield was working then

This will translate into cost cutting in the future which means layoffs.
