They are faced with two options. Since you are not working they either have to fire you or lay you off which cost them money so that’s why they’re directing you to go get another job so if you quit they don’t have to worry about you anymore
Yes, it's bad. They're doing anything they can to cull the herd. I feel for all associates in this. They've been double crossed.
