HOS Open Floor Plan, Goodbye

Locations like HBT HQ at Peachtree where people are packed in shoulder to shoulder are not going to survive the pandemic.
No one in their right mind will work like that again.

OP, I hope you are right. But something tells me that when the day comes to return to the office, we will flock there as before. The floorplan will not change because that would cost money, and they will count on the fact that we will be so beaten down that we will be grateful to return to whatever setup they provide as long as we get some sort of a paycheck.

They are also counting on the most disenfranchised of us to find another job before that day occurs.

I particularly enjoy the hardcore Honeywell defenders on here who come and bash the realists. I truly hope you enjoy your career of being an underpaid, undervalued, easily replaceable robot. Enjoy your salary freeze for the 18th time in 20 years.

@ygk, I am not the person who originally mentioned having an office, though I did as well. If you start out with something and it's taken away from you, that's a loss, whether it's an office or a cookie. It is childish and entitled of you and all the other "PC police" who troll social media, to put strangers down for what they harmlessly express, demanding that they post something that you think they should. I guarantee you would not have the guts to challenge someone that way in person, because you know that you're just trying to "make someone else wrong" for the manipulative rush. Remember, "He who lives by the sword dies by the sword."

@anr: We are not kids, wish you well and hope you get another office with a window. It seems important to you.

That's the thing about being human. We have the capacity to host a whole range of feelings and opinions all at once. One need not negate the other. A person can lament a personal loss and empathize with others who are going through difficult times, both at the same time. We can be upset about the world situation AND about something personal. That's not a character flaw, that's being human. Lighten up, kids!

Meanwhile, all over the world there are millions of health care workers, the folks supporting them, first responders, people manufacturing products to support the health care industry, grocery store employees, and all the other people that are having to work to support the world economy. Millions of people are out of work. Are we really going to have this commentary about an office?

Schtoonky, there was actually a time when it was the norm for a degreed professional to have their own office with windows and a door. It wasn't that long ago. Employees were valued as people and contributors, not as a cosf burden. How valued do you feel in your work environment? Clearly you don't if you feel entitled to lash out at someone lamenting what they've lost. I lament the loss of civility as much as I lament the loss of a positive work environment.

So you left because in your mind, you deserved a private office with a window to sit and stare at your computer all day? Glad you left! Hope your new job can inflate your ego even more.

I was moved from an office with a window, to a cube, to a home office, to a half wall cube and then to a half walled cube that I shared with 3 reports. It was one of the main reasons I left.

It was a ridiculous plan even before the pandemic.

Just another of the many reasons management gives to leave Honeywell.
