Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Progress report

Looking at the psr post on the website yesterday all the metrics are at goal but the worker productivity. In our current state of business around the country I fear only more layoffs are in our future. Hopefully the carloadings go up and the managers are the next cut.

Had over 40 below me , now 3, rules may say they can’t furlough after receiving stimulus money, but when has being against rules and regulations ever stopped them. Do what you wan’t and wait a few years for the courts to decide, let a few come back, pay a few widows, say we are sorry, wash, rinse, and repeat.

I'm not sure but if they take stimulus I don't think they can furlough after that!

I know I wouldn’t feel comfortable in a shop with 30 below me. I had fifty below me and now I only have four! Just waiting for the next cut to be gone.

The UP is set to gain at least a billion dollars off the COVID-19 stimulus package. The money will be cycled around and back into shareholder hands. Carloadings are about to take a nose dive, and PSR will continue to make longer trains if necessary. The Chicago Freight Terminal has cut its engineer board by almost three-quarters and guys who have hired out in 2011 are barely holding onto the extra board. There will be more layoffs and while it may not be as bad as the previous rounds you're looking at folks with almost 10 years (or more) of seniority being kicked to the curb while the Company continues to s— in all the free money it can get.

Our manager in North Platte told us this shop is safe for now no layoffs any time soon. They cant afford to lose any machinist right now. If they do layoff i still have 30 guys below me!

I think the virus and the quarantining will make it hard to cut Have seen more overtime in the last month than in the past 3 years.

Yes they are currently discussing another round of layoffs, but it won’t be as big as 2018 or 2015. They don’t have that much left to cut unless they start cutting at the top which they won’t do. They all see themselves as essential.
