Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

$2/hr Additional Pay Does not Apply to PTO

Just looked at my paystub for this Friday's payday, the $2/hr premium is only applied to hours worked, not my applied PTO from a couple of days when I called out with body aches and a scratchy throat to PROTECT MY FELLOW TMs and customers. Luckily it was likely just allergies, but I digress.

This is not speicified in WFM's policy regarding the pay premium. The wording from the release states:

"all part and full-time hourly Team Members at Whole Foods Market stores and facilities in the U.S. and Canada will receive an additional $2 per hour on top of their current hourly rate through the month of April."

There is no mention of PTO being included or excluded, nor does it specify "for hours worked".

First we get 30% for a week when almost NOTHING was on sale in the stores, now this BS.

It did state "hours worked" It also stated double time hours would be at your regular wage. $2 an hour increase not included.
Hopefully, this will continue thru May. Haven't heard as of yet.

There is actually a good discussion going on here. It's too bad it's a garbled mess bc the format of this board is so bad. Take this to reddit! Looking forward to the Mods deleting this in 3,2,1....

“Our mentally challenged dish pit workers"

Nice. I can guarantee the dish pit workers have higher EQ than the rockstar who penned this. And people wonder why tms don't rush to join "leadership"...

Vague and unclear. It doesn't specify that the work is being performed in stores and facilities, it reads as TMs who are employed in stores and facilities.

I'm not mad at anyone, you're just continually being a prick.

It's right there in the email you just posted!!! "In our store's and facilities"

Is your personal living space or wherever you are taking PTO "a Whole Foods Store or facility?"

The verbiage he used in that one particular email was slightly different or abridged because the information has been repeatedly recapped. Our mentally challenged dish pit workers know this. Don't get mad at everyone because you are uniformed.

He just released another email today said the same thing.

From Mackey's latest email sent on Tuesday:

"• We’ve temporarily increased our starting hourly wage by an additional $2 per hour for Team Members in our stores and facilities. That means that at a minimum, our Team Members are making $17 per hour in take-home pay."

NOTHING metioned about hours physically worked v. PTO hours.

Don't lecture me on "This info has been in every email that John Mackey has sent to everyone in the company" when that information is clearly bulls***.

Holy c-ap can someone decipher this nonsense for me? Is this one of those predictive text games or is this poster in need of medical treatment for stroke? Maybe some L.S.D. was involved?

This info has been in every email that John Mackey has sent to everyone in the company and has been posted on comm boards in the break room and is on the electronic screens by the time clocks. It's been posted in our departments comm areas a s well for those without email. It clearly states the $2/hr extra is "for all hours worked". Which would obviously not apply to anyone not working a.k.a. on PTO. This info has also been talked up by store & team leadership in every huddle, every day. If you didn't know your weren't paying attention or your store has massive communication problems. It's also been all over Facebook and the news. People I've met who have never been to a whole foods know about it and ask me about it.

an excerpt...

“In the U.S., we will be adding an additional $2 per hour worked through April from our current rate of $15/hour or more, depending on the region, $2 in Canada, £2 per hour in the U.K., and approximately €2 per hour in many EU countries.”

Stl got the info bout pto and they were supposed to share with tls. In regards of stl been thankful, a lot of them are. But I heard there was one store running with 2 cashiers. The next few days they hired 30+ tms and everything went back to normal. We are essential but also easy replaceable. Regional will make sure store keeps running because the community depends on stores. It is sad to say we are replaceable but it is what needs to be done so the community stays calm.

Thanks for the kinder answer. Where was it shared, though? I posted verbiage directly from Inkling, it only states an additional $2/hr. Technically PTO is by the hour if you are non salary. They need to make it more clear.

My post was about the $, sure, but more importantly the lack of uniform communication and care/safety of our TMs during this crisis.

To the STLs posting that I should be happy to have a job, YOU are lucky that you have TMs like me busting our butts and working hard every day. Even if it means calling out sick for the good of the collective.

Unfortunately it was shared that pto does not apply. Your TL probably failed to share that information. Its a hazardous pay while you work not while u are using pto. it is true that $2 is not enough. It should be more like $10. I wont be surprised if anyone sues whole foods for not doing enough for tms n paying them a miserable increase. It should b at least $10 for all store level team members including store leadership. My store team leaders are always there and doing the best they can. If it wasn’t for them and my fellow team members most of us would not be coming to work. Its really sad moments in my store.

Cool bruh. Then they should have offered a 40% discount for TMs. They've done it before for Team Member Appreciation Week. Yes, we're lucky to have jobs. Yes, there are people who have it worse than us. Does that minimize our worth? Absolutely not.

We're being put in harm's way and this company is making record sales. I pull the reports daily, this is the truth. They need to be doing more to protect us and to show appreciation for our showing up OR doing the right thing by staying home when sick.

Why the f— would it apply to pto. Hazard pay to stay at home? And of course there’s nothing on sale. Why would we put things on sale when our vendors can’t even keep up with production and we are limiting quantities? How does any of that make sense during a pandemic? So Karen can come in and try to hoard 2 for $5 pastas or whatever the f—.

No where is it specified that it is only for hours worked in the store. And yes, I am lucky to have a job, so don't get self-righteous. It doesn't mean WFM and Amazon are exempt from good communication and treating their TMs well.

This has been a s*** show, with WFM not leading the pack in company response to this pandemic in safety or TM treatment.

$2/hr is garbage when I lliterally have customers breathing down my neck while I try to stock the shelves for them.

really? Hazard Pay is for the hours we work in the stores. Just be glad you even have a job. Many do not these days.
