Vacation Canceled for 2020

My manger just informed me that vacation is canceled for remainder of 2020. I had scheduled and had approved vacation for week of July 4th, and for a wedding in October. Was told all vacation is canceled and that there will be no approved vacation for 2020. Manager also said that no spousal maternity leave or short term paid leave is permitted. I reminded my manager that I had not taken any vacation in 2020, and that it was already approved! Manager bluntly said, "S—s to be you". Wow, a real people person. Manager then said that if I take vacation, it will be non-approved, and that that is grounds for immediate termination on my return. Said this policy applied to everyone.
Anybody else been informed of this new vacation policy change?

Vacation really depends on department! I guaranteed this post is not fake, some departments are getting hit harder than others. Smart move, moving to unlimited vacations to be able to take it at will! More money for the investors, less vacation, money, and time for the employees.

To @uau+ regarding your directors MIP being $364,000 ... that may be base salary (seems high) but I highly doubt that it’s his/her MIP. Couple thoughts:
1) most likely MIP for 2020 (payable in March 2021) is going to be cancelled outright unless things turn around completely which I really don’t see happening
2) Holding a non existent MIP over the heads of managers etc to drive vacation to zero seems strange (wouldn’t put it pass them to try but it’s f—ging management with a wet noodle)
3) MIP is usually 10-15% of base salary ... by that number $364K MIP would mean a base salary of $2.4M - $3.6M. Nope. Not at Honeywell

Sounds like another crafty way to make people quit. That saves the company $$$

Two misconception seem to exist here.
We should make sure people understand the policy. And for the record, I was a manager that just left.
1) Unless you are in California, or have banked days from the old old vacation policy, you have no guaranteed vacation time at all. All employees are treated the same in the policy. Any manager that says that people with more years of experience are supposed to get more time, technically speaking, could be a cause for a discrimination complaint. But many managers/directors continue this narrative to justify their own vacation use, or to keep band 4s happy.
2) The manager is the sole person responsible in governing vacation use. If they elect to grant it when metrics are not being met, they take the blame on their own performance review and MIP. They can also be brought in front of HR. So if your manager says vacation is canceled, it is. No policy change is required.

Be grateful if you have a manager that uses very little vacation time themselves. They are likely cutting back to free up DDLP margin for you to take it.

You won’t be able to travel or go anywhere anyway ..so what value is a vacation ????

  • we will all have time away from work with furloughs etc.

No change in vacation policy. You have unlimited vacation, just don't use more time than you would have earned under the previous policy. That is the unwritten, and enforced, rule.

@amz

Paid vacation is a big problem when you have no customers. That’s why there are Frito-Layoffs

Policies like this makes one work just hard enough not to get fired.

You must be making n95 masks.
Aerospace has no customers so I doubt that vacation is a problem.

I will wait for the company memo about this policy change. Until that time, I will take my 2 week vacation in May as planned. Manager approved this afternoon. She has no knowledge of this rumor. Perhaps she did not get the memo.

100% Correct. If department DDLP (the new yield metric) is 111% or higher, then it is up to manager to grant vacation. If department DDLP is below 111%, manager can still approve vacation, but at end of the year 25% of their MIP will be zero is the department DDLP is below 111%. DDLP factors in vacation, sick time, and leaves. Therefore, when managers allow any other those negative parameters, they need to ensure it is made up someplace else, on a funded number. My director's MIP is $364,000. Anybody think he is willing to give up $91,000 by not making his department DDLP metric? Yea, me neither.

111% yield is not achievable if they keep furloughing our a$$es off. Plus, who in their right mind would work > 40 hrs per week when we just lost pay?! Not me pall!

Yea, BS. BS right? Not our company! WAIT, our badge says HONEYWELL!
The only BS is the id–t company Shills and HR trolls that continue to defend this horrible and unethical company on this site.
Just looking at recent posts here;
10% PIP's this year. BS, Trolls, not true. Fact.

Loosing our 2019 pay increases. BS, Trolls, shills, never happen, they can't do that. FACT.

Work Furlough coming. BS, never happen here, you are a shill, it would be illegal, BS. FACT again.

Managers will keep their MIPS. Get out here, never happen. BS, Troll. Shill. FACT.

Layoff coming. BS, you are a troll, never happen now. Census meeting on 4/7 8am, all managers mandatory. For the UN-informed, census meetings are what happens BEFORE every prior Layoff. Pending.

Vacation Canceled. BS, Troll, shill, never happen, they would need to change the policy. HaHaHa. LMFAO. Change the policy, they DID change the policy, when you leave, layoff or voluntary, you HAVE NO VACATION. Only those with prior grandfathered vacation have any pay coming. For those without GF vacation, bend over, you are getting a big goose egg.

Does not surprise me at all, we work at the worst company in existence. Honeywell.

Unfortunately true. Just confirmed verbally with my manager. Apparently, as of March 13th, any groups with a Yield (or whatever the new name is) below 111% vacations on hold and not approved. Above 111% yield, then it is up to the manager to approve or dis-approve. End of the year metric is for each business group to be at least 111% yield. Told our group is around 90%, so on hold until over 111%, then was told will be a case by case basis.
