Thread regarding IBM layoffs

GBS expectations

We would aim to do this by applying the following principles across and within all GBS markets

  • ALL Indirect and Non-Billable resources will be expected to take 5 days’ vacation preferably in April. Where this is not possible the vacation should be taken by no later than the end of Q2.
  • GTM Partners/Assoc partners will be asked to take 5 days vacation over the quarter, but only when authorized by the Geo Managing Partner.
  • Billable Practitioners: any practitioners on the bench, defined as less than 30% chargeable ute (rolling average over the last 13 weeks), will be expected to consume at least one week of their vacation when they have been on the bench for 1 week or where we see no confirmed billable role within the next 2 weeks. ALL other billable resources who are deployed in serving our clients who request vacation, should follow the existing approval and protocols.

We will exclude the GIC, (inc CPSD), GCG in Q2, but will keep the situation under constant review.

The lady who is in charge of GBS North America has been silent this entire calendar year so far. I don’t recall seeing any comms from her since Thanksgiving. Anyone know what’s going on?

I find that GBS does a lot of things but in a really mediocre way and gets crushed by competitors. They get in the RFP but always disappoint the clients. This is inevitable

I have zero experience with GBS except for what I read here on these boards. It would seem to me, that GBS is in the midst of a grand restructuring. IBM has announced when they took over redhat that the fortune 1000-1200 would be targeted. If we dedicated 2 consultants to each fortune 1200 company that’s 2500 employees. If we dedicate 5 architects per fortune 1200 company to rollout “modernization” strategy/coding initiatives, that adds another 6000 employees. Let’s throw in another GBS employee for special projects at the fortune 1200 and we end up with 10000 employees. Every thing else at GBS is “body shop” and can be outsourced with one of the 10000 GBS employees managing it. I ask does anyone think this is what IBM is after?

I have no sympathy for GBS. They’re a bloated org, they’re overpaid, and the ones I know excel at passing the buck when the going gets tough. Cull the herd and keep the good ones. Flame away if you want, but you can’t argue against truth.

GBS here. The year started out on a bad note. Pipeline is near empty and all central funding for initiatives was redirected in Feb, leaving many holding the bag for Jan. Pressure needs to start being applied to B10s+ who are all currently failing to deliver on their commitments. Time for the ax to swing.

Old news. GBS is hurting really bad right now, almost all Fortune 500 companies have applied deep CAPEX cuts over last three weeks.

Entire 2020 will be ugly.
