Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Why did Macy's shut down its social media?

What a terrible marketing decision. We are all stuck inside on our computers and phones for hours, basically a captive audience glued to social media. Nearly every other retailer has kept their social media teams going even when the majority of employees have been furloughed. I've seen some really amazing, engaging content from places like Saks and Nordstrom that is probably driving sales. (I just read that Abercrombie's e-commerce sales have been BOOSTED for exactly these reasons).

Meanwhile, Macy's hasn't had a new post since March 17th.

Way to make your customers forget you exist.

There's still people from Macy's responding to recent posts on their March 17 announcement about closing stores that day. People are using that post as a b!tching board about a multitude of issues. Someone responded just a few hours ago and there's other posts from within this week and last that I saw.

If you are posting for a company laid off then you are giving free labor

I ordered an item last week and got it within 3 days. Someone is working!! Good job Macy’s!! It took Amazon 8 days to deliver an item.

It's not social media, but I am still getting things that I order online and pretty quickly at that...

FAKE NEWS: ”Also they closed all stores and furloughed all. That means no one to pick, pack, and ship. This shows they did not have a good solid .com process.”

FACT: The store manager, plus a few other salaried managers are doing all of the fulfillment.... which includes picking, packing and shipping.

So please get facts correct before posting and trying to scare everyone
Thanks!

Correct, Macy's is failing, and fast. If they did not have the forethought to keep social media alive then there are issues. Also they closed all stores and furloughed all. That means no one to pick, pack, and ship. This shows they did not have a good solid .com process.
Someone turned out the lights, closed and locked the doors and knew that lot of stores will not open.
My guess is that most stores will open very slowly. Not enough cash left to pay employees, benefits and overhead costs when opening again.
Another fly in the ointment: Macy's knows they will see MASSIVE returns when they open (or at least I hope they see this coming). A lot of purchases made in the past just before closure will have returns and they will not have the case to handle that.

I understand that. But all those other companies I mentioned furloughed most of their employees also, but they kept their social media people working.

And not everyone at Macy's was furloughed... they could've keep a social media specialist on payroll. It would have been worth the investment.

If you’re posting to social media on behalf of Macy’s, then you’re working for Macy’s. Most all of us have been furloughed, so...can’t work for Macy’s. That’s the deal. Legally speaking.
