Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

When Reduction in force begins, who will be the first to go?

I'm scared, very very scared.

I recently started with the company, does that mean I'm a prime candidate for the first wave of layoffs?

PS: I'm in Aero :-(

@gqfe YES! That is exactly what I did in 2018. I volunteered, was accepted and when my 26 weeks of severance ended I filed for unemployment and collected the max. As far as unemployment is concerned, you are employed as long as you are getting a paycheck severance or not.

1st would be the non- badged contractors. Lots of these now compared to years ago. Next, I agree they want the older, non- minority folks out. Then a smattering of others to avoid any legal actions.

RIF targets can depend on a couple things. Overall savings, the amount budgeted for severances, and making sure you have a good mix of ages so no one can claim age related discrimination. So people who hired in from elsewhere and have only a few years at Honeywell can be targeted, some young people are always targeted, anyone making well more than they should can be as well.

And if a director or VP wants you gone, you will end up gone. It doesn't matter if you have a critical skillset.

I know people that plan to retire next year after MIP. Given there will likely be no MIP bonus they would bail now if they take volunteers, especially if they would prorate their company 401k match.

The first to go will be the older, more highly compensated employees. The next to go will be just enough younger employees to bring the average RIF age down to below the age discrimination threshold. It won't matter how well you do your job, some guy who works free overtime reading trade magazines in his cubicle will keep his job over yours. The real question is, why would you want a career with such a dysfunctional company?

Good luck with "protected class" i watched them walk out women that were rating of 2/4 over 40 and diverse in HBT. They don't care. First lists were required March 1 , RIF occurred 4/16. Expecting next lists June 1.

Airlines are still not flying internationally

Any word real discussions on RIFs , heard likely to possibly do another set of furloughs, but no true word on this. Honeywell is always pretty quiet on-these things until they are ready to let you know

Work 60 - 70 hours a week. Report redundant metrics that shift blame to different functions. Get on calls with China, Eastern Europe and India several times a week that expose Sr. Management conflict.

Watch bogus reporting on metrics in tier meetings. Train your contemporaries in other low cost regions how to do your job. Watch the finance teams adjust the plan monthly with 2 RIF's built in July and November. Get a 1 or 2 block rating and don't worry - You're next future shaver.

Hey, my son was hired in Feb 2015 and was let go in Jan 2016 in that first layoff wave at Glendale Space. He was 6 sigma trained and certified . With a masters in EE you would think the company regarded him as an asset. The company was still making profits at that time and had 5 billions in cash to do stock buy-backs in 2016. The powers that be do not care.

You are the last to go. Location, age, salary, who you know, and weight seem to be the criteria as best as i can tell. This is across layoffs spanning thirty years.
Stay skinny, eat out with your bosses, work multiple revcog projects and you will be fine.

Better yet declare yourself some type of protected class and ride it to retirement.

You dont have a pension with honeywell... so honestly why would you care? Other companies still hiring and pay better with better benefits.
