They can backfill a firing (PIP related).

If they need that particular slot they won't accept a self nom. They can't backfill a RIF but can a retirement or resignation.
It surprises me that they don't have options.

What is the criteria to be accepted for self nomination. I was denied and don't know why???

The reason so many were denied is that some functions/departments had more volunteers than needed or expected to make the Aero target. The position RIF'd can't be replaced in the same capacity for at least a year. Box 1-4s are normally not accepted. And they have to throw in some of the younger set to keep anyone from crying discrimination. Congratulations to the ones who were successful in their escape.

Want to get laid off and are a top block or 30year guy?

1) pick a year you think a layoff will happen (about every 2 years is the current clip)
2) talk to your manager. Find out if you are on a single point failure list and if they have identified someone as your future replacement. Train that people to get yourself off the SPF list.
3) be annoying by making a stand for what is right. Demand the right testing be done before commitment. Turn over a few rocks. Don't let sloppy work slide in a design reviews. Get project engineers to complain that your standards are too high and causing schedules to lengthen. (When in fact you know what you are doing is in the program's and company's best interest). Just make sure that you are 100% technically correct when you make your stands so that it is hard to justify a bottom block HPD review.

If you time it right, one can go from 1 or 2 block to laid off in about a year without any moral conflicts.

@yqz exactly. The critical middle career experienced professional gets to Honeywell and pretty quickly realizes it’s a dumpster fire. Most stay no longer than three years. I’m in that category and stayed 2.5 years, but realized about 6 months in what a c—p company Honeywell really is. Stayed two years so that I could loose myself from the golden handcuffs of the Relo package and then got out as quickly after as I could. I would not recommend Honeywell to anyone.

Basically, by not consistently hiring or retaining, aerospace has ended up with a workforce either way too old, or too inexperienced. You see this in salary distributions as well as there is a bias in the pay and annual raise percentages that compounds the issue every year. The unusual problem however is that there are many single point failures of people with 30+ years of experience. So they will not offer any incentive for them to retire. Even if they are paid 2x the industry rate for a staff engineer.

I volunteered and was declined??? I have been at Honeywell over 30 years and want out. I thought this was the perfect opportunity. What would make them decline a self nomination? Not sure what they look at when making their decision. So many people were accepted. Very depressing to say the least.

Denied as well. Makes you wonder just what the RIF "categories" are or were to select the folks who were accepted. A friend was accepted, so I'm happy for them.

Odd that this email states "to review documents the week of the involuntary notifications" when there has been no announcement regarding involuntary layoffs. I guess Hon doesn't have to announce layoffs anymore. But they would tell the volunteers that there is going to be one. Also, I spoke to my HR rep about volunteering last week and that person basically told me wasn't in the loop - Just working to support leadership and do the tasks they assign.

This definitely looks legit to me. I've seen one like this before that a colleague of mine received. It is unfortunate that "proof" was demanded. Apparently, some folks are still very much in the dark about their situation. BEST of LUCK to YOU ALL! Find peace of mind and know joy again.

One of you “accepted” folks please post the email you received minus the names or whatever can’t be put on here. Let’s see some proof for the non-believers. You shouldn’t be worried about getting fired anyway right?

Curious to know what is being stated as the effective date you will be gone for those who say they got accepted.

Volunteering seems a little "iffy" when dealing with Honeywell. In past say 5 years or so I seem to know more folks who got denied vs accepted; mostly all older with a lot of years. Severance payout amount seems to be a factor IMHO. For older folks seems like Hon thinks you will just choose to retire if they keep denying. If these posts are real, this is the fastest decision I've heard of regarding accept / deny.

So if you volunteered and were accepted, do you get the full severance weeks you were entitled to?

Honeywell is a POS company, always has been always will be. I put in for the voluntary and was denied. What gives? They requested volunteers in my group. been there 20 years and they even try to screw you on the way out. I hope this company goes belly up with all their greed.

My request to volunteer for the RIF was also declined. I got the official email tonight.
