Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Was denied a Lunch Break.

Okay I will try to be succinct. I work as a cart attendant and had a COS(Co-Supervisor) deny me lunch. There was two cart pushers working(me being one of the two).It was a hot day outside,we were busy,the cart mule was broke and we pushed carts manually. Needless to say the cart vestibule was empty of carts and flatbeds. I eventually needed to go to lunch to eat for energy and told the COS that the other cart pusher was going to be by his self. The COS told me that cart pushers are not allowed to take a lunch if the cart vestibule is not full of carts and flatbeds.

I came here just to vent and receive some insight on this situation from others who might can relate and give me suggestions.

My personal feelings: This is not right! Here I am pushing carts by hand in the heat because the mule is broke and I can't even take a Lunch? All of the other associate in the club are allowed take their breaks and some of them take longer then allowed and cart pushers are not allowed to take a lunch?

Policy states 6 hours you MUST take a lunch. If the COS refuses to allow it open door it up the chain.. they can get in trouble for not allowing you your breaks and lunch and YOU could get in trouble if you skip them willingly.

I had this happen to me before. I was 6 hours into my shift and the CM herself told me I could not take a lunch until more was done. 2 of us had been working non-stop for 6 hours and she tried to refuse my lunch. I went back and worked for 10 more minutes then told her I got someone to cover me and I was going to lunch. I did not really have anyone to cover me but she never knew that since all she did was walk around pushing people to their breaking point. Sam's is a BS company.

Well in my opinion the COS did nothing wrong. You have a job to do and although the mule was broken you still have a responsibility. Now, they could've have sent you some help if there were other associates available but you have to understand that if you just went on lunch with the vestibule empty that same COS that told you to go on lunch would of gotten in trouble by his/her manager. We all have a job to do and instead of pointing the finger and thinking someone is a bad person put yourself in their shoes. Thats what i think of this situation

Thank you for what you do. It's a tough job in both summer and winter. I hope they are providing water for the cart pushers there...if not, they should be.

Talk to manager and co tact ethics if not resolved. His cos can't stop you from getting a lunch. Its against company policy

That is exactly what some of these so-called lead cos's or lead front end or lead this or lead that do! And it is illegal not to give you a lunch and 2 breaks if you work an 8 and maybe even 7 hour day. This is the monster home office created when they decided to have fewer managers and allow team leads to make decisions. My guess is that you have one that thinks they are important in some way and you probably aren't one of their favs. Walmart/Sam's has been sued many times for this type of c-ap. Don't let it go...be sure to talk to your assistant mgr and then gm. Make sure they know that you will not stand for that type of treatment. Good luck.

I'm a team lead and there is no set time for member assist to go to lunch. Cart guys take care of their own breaks. We don't have a cart pusher either. Some days we only have one cart guy. He takes his own breaks and manages to keep enough carts inside. Your team lead sound like a real power crazed d—ster.

Talk with you Club Manager. Give him or her a chance too look into it, then contact Corporate if the issue wasn’t handle at policy level.

Everyone is entitled to lunch or break with or without carts. Report her/him to store manager and email district manager as well. No one should be treated like that especially in this heat
