So apparently the only reason we are having more layoffs is due to the pandemic. Hmmmm, makes me wonder if UP knew about this pandemic years before anybody else since we've been having layoffs non stop for that long. Or they are just using the pandemic to do what they were going to do anyhow, but without any consequences. I wonder which one is more likely...

UP loves to layoff people even when they are doing well. What's to stop them now.

Yes but they start at the bottom of the roster. Another note is it raises the average age in the insurance pool which can have significant impact on rates.

Every company is using the pandemic as an excuse to clean house. Companies have realized that individual productivity of an employee declines after a certain age while the overall cost of retaining the same employee increases. In other words, companies pay more and get less. You would be doing the same thing if you were them.
PSR is what destroyed the company not Covid 19 plus the Incompetent management we have running it too

They just got lucky and had something fall into their lap to use as an excuse for the layoffs. Lance is pumping those things because rumor is he’s going to run for office eventually. It’s simple greed at the end of the day that’s it.
Several companies knew about the pandemic ahead of time and responded in their own ways. Up had the PSR layoff lean out scheme. Some CEOs just bailed. Other companies had cuts also. Fake news pandemic power grab. why else would fritz push vaccines, testing and tracing.

It makes no difference what the reason is. The consequences aren’t an issue either way. Why do you think one reason is better than the other for the company? The end result is the same for all parties concerned.
