Thread regarding IBM layoffs

35+ Years

I have worked for IBM for over 35 years, the past 25 on Db2 for z/OS development. My last day in June 22nd. I was caught off guard in the moment but have always known this day could come anytime.

IBM has been very good to me - very good - and Db2 for z/OS is a stellar place to work (apart from a recent overemphasis on "transformation"), packed with excellent minds and an amazing spirit of cooperation. I'll miss that. I have faith in Arvind Krishna to bring the company to new heights just as Lou Gerstner did in the 1990s.

No regrets here. It has been a privilege all the way.

Thank you, my friend! Db2 for z/OS is a stellar product - a flagship of IBM, and you had been a significant part of it. This company has lost his vision and mind. The cancer has spread through its culture. There are so many talented IBMers still inside IBM, be safe and look out for your own career. Take control and trust no one!

I feel so sorry that this is a way to say goodbye. I have been with IBM Research for over 7 years, my 1st real job after grad school. I am not affected by this restructuring, but honestly, I am shaken by how cold the company seems. Thank you for your service at IBM - it is people like you made IBM the place that I wanted to join in the first place. Best wishes!
