Expat staff do not have "contracts". Part of the offer you sign says the expected assignment duration of 2-4 years, but it also says you may be repatriated at any time for any reason. Usually these repatriations happen due to the assignment ending (like a project), but it can also be that the position is being eliminated, the position being nationalized, visa is expiring without possibility of renewal.

Don'r expats have employment contracts with specific terms (i.e. 2-4 years). I can certainly see pressure to not extend expats beyond their current contract and on new expat assignments but there are too many issues with repatriation in the middle of a contract without cause.

Expats will be sprinted out of their cushy lifestyle in a agile manner. Major overhaul. All expats will be furloughed for 3 years until the business turnaround, as they make 3 times regular employee salary.

Expats should be expats in foreign countries as per the original intent. They should not displace US payroll employees in the USA unless their is a reciprocal arrangement and certainly should not be paid more for the privilege. Why are development assignments ofter significantly longer than three year. This has been gamed for years and is a real moral k–ler in times like this.

Expats are not the problem. Most of them are high potential/high performance employees. And now, depending on their home country, they’ve got cheaper due to dollar getting stronger.

The problem relies on the average Joe that doesn’t add any value.

I think it all depends on the business case in the particular individual expat situation. I think many ex-pats will be repatriated to their home country but also some expats will be allowed to continue in their current assignment Or possibly even move to a new assignment. If the person is considered a future leader or someone who needs key development experience in particular roles they will be hand-picked to continue their career progression. Generally speaking I think a considerable number of expats will be repatriated.

I am the OP. Indeed English is my 3rd language, and I speak 5 languages comfortably.
As an expat, I must say CVX had treated me very well and took good care of me during all my previous 5 overseas assignments.
I have been through and survived ESP, ROM and etc....but honestly struggling to see any light now, mainly due to the tough situation now and not sure there is any meaning/energy to continue after 30+ years of hard work.
Thanks for listening and be safe, take care.

Really? You are correcting grammar in this forum? That was not may post; however I am pretty sure i make grammatical errors often. English is not my 1st language, but I speak 3 different languages very fluently. How many do you speak? Maybe you are the one that should take your severance to expand your brain a little.

You should understand that ‘numbers’ is plural so the verb you require is ‘are’ and not ‘is’. Use your severance to get an education and concentrate on your grammar.
