The birthday off is not fixed to a single day. You can take it in the one month around your birthday.

No GX in Vegas this year...is that what I hear? It's about freakin time......what a massive boon doogle and huge waste of huge money. If everyone knew what went on behind the scenes at GX, the stockholders would freak.

I just got an instant message from a red-badge that used to be on my team that he was let go today, effective immediately, on the "Day for Me". No details why. Talk about a kick in the pants.

At least when he was on our team, when his contract was suddenly ended, he was told that his contract would be ended at the end of the month and he had about three and a half weeks notice to start looking for a new position which is how he ended up on the different team.

I guess it's only good to be blue right now.

Today is my birthday and am entitled to a day off. Will I get another day off? Sent out an email to HR 4 days ago but no response. Who else is in the same boat?

The "free" birthday day off is flexible and you work with your manager to schedule it. Just like you'd do any other year where your birthday falls on a holiday, weekend, or other non-working day, you ask your manager for an alternate day. I recall seeing guidance that you're supposed to take it within a two week window of your actual birthday, so it's not exactly like the floating holiday where you can pick any day of the year. When anyone on my team has their birthday falling mid week, our manager lets us take either Mon or Fri off if we want to make it a 3-day weekend.

Also, the "Day for Me" FAQ page says that if this day is a weekend, take Sunday off instead. And if you're forced to work today due to being essential or customer facing, then work w/ your manager for an alternate day off.

Take today off as the "Day for Me" and take another day within the next two weeks as your birthday. I'd bet the manager might not want you to take Tue off and make it a 5-day weekend.

Don't stress out on this. Since you don't have to put in to get PTO approved, it's simply between you and your manager. And given that you're working from home right now, how the heck is he going to know what day you really take unless you are in constant communication with him/her? If your work is getting done before the deadlines, are you really working 40 hrs per week from home and working five eight-hour days? I'm currently working seven six-hour days to allow for better work/family balance. I work three hours, take a three hour break, work another three hours and call it done for the day. This allows me to help the kids do their school work during their "normal" school hours, and do essential shopping in quick in/out trips during the day and still keep to fairly normal family routines in the evenings.
