Big Blue is no longer red, white and blue. Most of their employees will not live in the U.S. after the virus-related payroll cuts. This will make competing with the likes of Amazon much more difficult. Amazon will use this as an opportunity to further increase their Cloud market share. IBM is headed to become a $50 billion company unless they discover the "next best thing". I am praying for IBM so they find their way. Watson did not layoff employees during the great depression.

The "I" stands for "India". The majority of 300K+ employees are in India.
IBM has not been a U.S. Centric Company for 15 years now.
I recall in 2005, as a U.S. based IBM partner, I had a ped at an IBM Rational Trade Show in AP
The IBM CEO at the time was visiting the local IBM office. I sat in on one of his presentations.
He explained how India and China were the growth areas for IBM and they were going to hire over 100,000 IBMers in these 2 countries in the next 5+ years.
What he didn't talk about was how IBM would decimate their U.S. based workforce during that time.
IBM has not been a "U.S. Centric" company in a long time.
What you say is true with the exception of this being a lay-off related to the virus. This was long planned and was supposed to happen in March but was delayed due to the virus. New CEO took the charge in Q1. I’m amazed that a lot of people say they had no clue this was coming.
